Over a year after losing my job at Enron after the collapse, I was hired by a "service firm". Big clients. Flew all over the country shadowing workers in HR, payroll, etc., documenting their processes. McKesson, Sun Microsystems, Frito Lay, and many more. Then mapped out their processes for our IT to rebuild and then wrote the scripts for centers in Bangalore, Chennai...After developing the training (team) I refused to fly (single mom with a child in school) and worked training the trainer (an American of Indian origin). Each trip she returned from had her more skeptical of the process. Then, the company began bringing in groups of H1bs, for us to train in our environment. Not a few, groups of 20 or more every few months, until we had an HR call. We were given 7 months, plus 8 weeks severance after. More than a handful (me included) just stopped. Went to work but didn't participate. Near the end of the 7 months, my particular team, was offered a remote job....writing resumes for H1bs. We would be provided with personal information and an outline for each candidate, and were to write a cover letter, a resume or CV, and a follow-up letter. I will admit that my response was less than professional. One of my colleagues who took the offer (despite my excoriating him for selling out) would email me describing the demands and the treatment from the H1b employment service companies (all Indian) he was writing for. If an H1b was at the end of sponsorship and about to face going home, the employment service would 'hire' them while new resumes were created and sent out. This was back in the early oughts. I made some noise back then, but it was an acceptable, some said inevitable, process. 20 something years later, people have awakened.
