Pakistan's democracy deserves respect for its electoral process.
I echo concerns over freedoms & electoral integrity & urge all parties to uphold democracy.
@StateDept should refrain from recognizing a winner until transparent investigations into fraud claims are complete.

Retweet if you would like an open trial of Wheeler Dealer Mohsin Naqvi & his crony IG Punjab for Murder, Torture, Kidnappings, Ransacking & Interference in Electoral Process.
They ran character assassination campaigns of ppl based on fake cases but will themselves be sentenced for their own real crimes.

My former colleague @ryangrim’s reporting on the Pakistani elections and military interference, as well as inspiring stories, has been superb, check this crazy story out: theintercept.com/2024/02/09/…

#PAKWatch🇵🇰: Even though it appears that Imran Khan and the PTI party had a runaway electoral victory, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is working overtime to rig the results and remove Captain Pakistan from the picture.

Pakistanis have the right to elect their leaders without cell phone service shutdowns & other authoritarian practices aimed at undermining election results.
The U.S. must stand with the Pakistani people & make clear we will not support anyone working to undermine democracy.

There is no democracy or free and fair elections when you ban your opponents from participating.
We cannot continue to finance or condone the actions of the Pakistani government while it's actively undermining its democracy and criminalizing political opposition.
Since my colleagues and I raised our concerns about human rights in Pakistan last November, things have only gotten worse. There can't be free and fair elections when one of the opposition parties has been criminalized.

PTI leaders jailed. PTI electoral candidates' nomination papers denied. PTI online rallies/fundraisers blocked. Top PTI rival's legal woes melt away. SC justices perceived as siding w/PTI step down. PTI denied use of election symbol.
This is brazen, not subtle, pre-polls rigging.

It's a dark day for Pakistan's democracy
As the PTI loses its election symbol, the Supreme Court has effectively killed any hopes for a free and fair election next month
I break down PTI's options, as well as what happened in and out of the Supreme Court in the last 24 hours

Pakistan’s largest and most popular political party, Imran Khan’s PTI, has been stopped from participating in February Elections! Establishment has used a compromised & totally controlled court to snatch party’s electoral symbol on frivolous grounds! This indirect way has been used only to avoid the blame of banning the party! But practically the party has been banned! While this has been done to save Nawaz Sharif from total electoral defeat, the surprising thing is total silence from the Governments of US, Britain and key players in Europe? Abysmal failure of Washington, London & Brussels to raise voice on the murder of democracy and rule of law in Pakistan has only strengthened the fears that west has been behind the emasculation of democracy in Pakistan! Why? What lies ahead? What is at stake? What is needed? youtu.be/ZtQawkwLDgA?si=1xIZ… via @YouTube
