The August Dispatch is live. The house is quieter this month. Some of the noise moved to trains. Some of it now answers to a title this server invented while my back was turned, and I have stopped fighting the canon, the paperwork is exhausting. The rest has been issued a number and told to wait. Also inside: my obsessions learning to take a number, an accident involving patience, and one article that came from somewhere a little too real.

Dass die sich alle so krass einscheissen vor einer linken Regierung ist ein sehr gutes Zeichen

We are aware of a claim alleging unauthorized access to our systems. Following a thorough investigation, we have found no evidence to support this claim and can confirm that our systems have not been compromised.

Hey so can we not run my art through AI just to feed your superiority complex? Thanks
Replying to @SylvyLastname @rfkortrump
Hey! So I decided to give you a little help with your art, hope it helps!

Ironed out the last performance issues with my full 2.5m line codebase explorer. 120hz awesomeness. Can only upload 60fps video tho. Much nicer uncompressed

Elon is calling this model (Grok 4.8) a C++. I don’t think he’s giving the team enough credit. I bet it will be a solid A++…

Grok 4.8, which is a 2.5T model trained with our new C++ software stack, will finish training this week and start RL

People getting offended by Jacksepticeye shitting on Charlie Kirk as if Charlie Kirk wasn't a piece of shit human.
Charlie Kirk. Was. A Piece. Of. Shit. Human. There, I said it.

Steep rise in the number of people at OpenAI and Anthropic having existential crises these past few weeks.
From conversations with people at and around both labs, it's increasingly clear to me that AGI has essentially arrived, just not publicly. We're likely months, not years, from these models being widely available. And that puts us at a fork in the road, with the point of no return not far past it.
The scramble to act we've seen in the last or week or so is warranted imo. But all of this is super hard to navigate, and the obvious dilemma is that if the U.S. slows its frontier work, it cedes ground to China. Unless Beijing agrees to do the same... which I doubt happens anytime soon.
Time is short - and the decisions made over the next twelve months will be studied for decades to come.

so, you mean Chinese AI labs are so socialist:
- Sell users as $1/M tokens.
- Generously forward the requests to a $10/M Claude Opus?
never been so bullish on @Kimi_Moonshot @Zai_org @deepseek_ai
We're publishing our most detailed threat intelligence report to date.
It covers how people tried to misuse Claude—for cyberattacks, influence operations, surveillance, biology, and building weapons—and how we found and stopped them.
We disrupted every operation in the report, and used the lessons from them to strengthen our safeguards. Where appropriate, we also shared what we found with authorities and other AI companies.
These cases are not typical: we’re highlighting some of the most sophisticated misuse we’ve seen. But they’re especially important to discuss, because they show us where AI misuse is headed, where our safeguards work, and where they need to improve.
We’re publishing this report so others can spot the same activity on their own platforms, and so we can give the public a clearer view of how emerging threats develop.

People don’t spam replies, open tickets, and dump screenshots of broken products because they enjoy doing it. They do it because they’re desperate for help.
OpenAI is trying to become infrastructure for modern civilization while serving roughly a billion people every week. At that scale, the answer should be better tooling: use your own AI to surface the problems thousands of users are reporting repeatedly, then give the community human attention where possible.
Posting “spamming replies is not a good way to get help” while representing the company just comes off as dismissive. It shifts attention from the broken product to the frustrated user asking for help.
