After 100+ redundancies in 2023, the VC @uniofbrighton used her first email of 2024 to announce:
👋Voluntary severance scheme
💀Plan to remove all entitlement to research time from academics
🛑Plan to remove the weekly cap on teaching hours
Haven't they caused enough damage?!
I would sincerely like to say soz 2 my institution. Been told this tweet a) brings UoB into disrepute, b) reveals confidential info (sent via all school email), c) is considered discriminatory, bullying, and harassment.
I understand this is the concern. NOT me feeling depressed

I mean - yeah the anti-union laws do pose significant barriers, but we’ve also not met the threshold cause the leadership of this union is just utter shite.
NEW: Anti-union laws stop UCU members from taking strike action.
Our ballot results show UCU members want to strike for better pay & conditions.
But anti-democratic laws that single unions out for special treatment have blocked us from taking action.

Gaza is under intense bombing.
Telecommunications have been cut.
We can't get through to our family who have been trapped in this war zone for almost 3 weeks.
We can only pray they survive the night.
How many more children have to die before the world says enough?
As is typical at @uniofbrighton the tyrants led by the absolutely shambolic VC are robbing me 100% of my wages and driving us into poverty. Sussex Uni have rescinded pay deductions. UoB are doing this JUST to be callous. Do not work here academic colleagues @ucu @BrightonUCU

Great turn out on our picket today! Thanks @sianberry for visiting & supporting our #BrightonUniStrike! We won't return to work until every compulsory redundancy is rescinded. @uniofbrighton made its needless savings through VR & resignations. There is no excuse! Stop the cuts!

It's the end of the Tories as we know it (and I feel fine)
We should all go full @DawnButlerBrent: This man is a LIAR

Lobbying @uniofbrighton academic board today, to settle with @BrightonUCU and to stop the union busting & intimidation of staff. Great turnout from students & staff, because together, we will win.

Up to now I’ve been open minded, and willing to make a strategic choice about who I voted for next election - but there is no way I can vote for a Labour leader who endorses war crimes.
I await my letter of expulsion…
By refusing to fund interpreters for this deaf student, @uniofbrighton are effectively forcing this student out of education and potentially the country. This is a scandal - they do not care about staff or students & are dangerous @BrightonUCU @nusuk @ucu

Look, I am aware and I understand there are many economic, social, political, and gendered reasons why some workers can not or will not strike. However, I need it to be understood that however difficult it is to scab it, is always easier than striking.
