🧵 1/4 @ReROOT_Project #Bxl site-researcher Shila Anaraki on the arrival context of her PhD research: Throughout 2020-23 lawyers tried to push against the Belgian authority's denial of single male newcomers' rights to reception based on individual cases.
🧵 3/4 The Belgian state was convicted in more than 8800 individual cases with penalties of + than 275 million euros. But the government still today refrains from taking sufficient measures to keep protection seekers from living on the street for months & refused to pay the fines
🧵 4/4. This is one element of the arrival infrastructure in Belgium. Read more about this research at rerootproject.eu

💡This exercise is good b/c it allows people to think about situations in non-normative ways...
- quote from NL Toolkit Testing session
To make sure our #h2020 #integration #toolkit will be useful to those on the frontlines of migrant arrival, we involve them in its making!
How do you translate scientific findings for non-academic practitioners? = involve them in the process! Quote from today's ReROOT Toolkit testing session:
💡 Do practitioners need to know about [the concept] 'welfare bricolage'? Can the language be less academic?
“This exercise will be applicable. Definitely. Many civil society orgs. are inaccessible for newcomers + this helps them understand what they can do differently + what are possible reasons for people not reaching and thriving them”. #h2020 #integration #toolkit #ReROOT
