Looking for people who think AI is awesome. Must enjoy sharing cool stuff, learning things, and watching me burn a week's worth of tokens in an afternoon….often by mistake. Come here. Let's be friends. You don't really have a choice.

Every time someone tells me AI writes slop code, I want to see their code from 2019. Us humans have been shipping slop for decades. We just called it legacy.

Draghi's competitiveness report had 383 recommendations. Almost two years later the tracker says 15.7% are fully implemented. At that pace we'll be done around 2036. I'm sure AI will wait for us.

Bruegel has run the numbers on AI compute. The EU has about 2 GW, roughly 5% of the world's capacity. The US has 35 GW. China has 5. On current plans we reach 5.6% by 2031. So the plan is basically to stay where we are while everyone else keeps building 🤬🇪🇺

Stanford's AI Index counted the notable AI models of the year. US 59. China 35. Europe 2. TWO. We have the talent and the universities. We just keep writing rules for models other people build....

For years the AI Act was going to make Europe THE place for trustworthy AI. This summer they had to rush an amendment through just to push the high-risk rules from August 2026 to December 2027, and to August 2028 for AI in products, because the standards weren't ready. I'm honestly fine with the delay. What bothers me is that we wrote the rulebook before we had much to regulate, and now we're spending the energy delaying rules instead of building.

Denmark is setting aside up to DKK 750 million over five years to buy capacity in an EU AI gigafactory. That's about €20 million a year, and it's a reserve, not a promise. I'm glad we're in at all. I just don't think we should call this competing.

OECD numbers for AI venture money in 2025. US: $194 billion. EU: $15.8 billion. That's more than 12x. The annoying part is Europe has plenty of AI startups. The money just disappears when they need to scale, and late stage is where it's worst, so the good ones end up taking US money or moving.

The EU's big AI gigafactory call was supposed to close November 12. Reportedly nobody had handed in a bid, so the deadline for the large ones moved to December 3, and the medium ones got pushed all the way to February 2027. A €30 billion plan for seven sites, and so far the thing we've built is a longer deadline. All seven at their minimum size add up to about 930 MW. OpenAI's Abilene campus alone is going for 1.2 GW.... sigh 🇪🇺

Xiaomi 18 Pro is heading to Europe. An Italian retailer lists it at €1,398, and our version gets a 6,000mAh battery instead of the 7,000mAh one China gets. Paying more for less battery. Very European of us 🇪🇺

I’m going to Cisco Live in London in February. If anyone wants to have a cup of coffee and talk Omarchy or AI while i’m in London let me know! 🙂 (I know it’s a bit in the future but might as well prepare!)

Best bit in Mistral's Large 4 tech report: they cut the KV cache 16x, perplexity and knowledge benchmarks looked fine, but agent tasks like SWE-bench got worse. So they did surgery back to (almost) full attention. I'll never trust a "perplexity looks fine" again.... huggingface.co/mistralai/Mis…

NVIDIA's US store has now pulled the RTX 5080 too, two weeks after the 5090. The product page still says "Starting at $999". Cheapest one actually in stock is $2,199. I'm sure it's fine. tomshardware.com/pc-componen…

Reports say DeepSeek V5 will be pretrained mainly on Huawei Ascend 950. Neither of them has confirmed it. But if it holds, that's a big deal. Ascend has mostly been doing inference, and training was the part China still needed NVIDIA for. trendforce.com/news/2026/11/…

EU Court's Advocate General in the Gemini case: training on press articles is mostly fine under the text and data mining exception. Pulling live paywalled articles into answers might not be. Non-binding, ruling in a few months. First EU AI headline in a while that didn't make me sigh. curia.europa.eu/site/upload/…

The clearest sign to my kids that I’m about to say some completely dumb, untrue dad shit is when I start a sentence with, “When I was a little girl….” It took them a couple of years to catch on when they were very little, but eventually they did. Good times.

EU leaders are having their first dedicated conversation about AI next week in Dublin. First. In November 2026. Mensch calling the current plan a trap is him being polite.
Mistral CEO Arthur Mensch: Europe risks falling into a complete trap if it focuses on industrial AI while leaving frontier models to the US and China. Europe needs its own reasoning models and computing capacity — POLITICO. 1/
