Hello guys, I honestly don’t even know how to start writing this. Yesterday around 11 PM, I watched years of my work disappear in front of me. Around $50K USD worth of ETH and USD across my wallets was drained. I’m writing this with a huge emptiness inside me, a knot in my stomach, and honestly… I’m still trying to process what happened. For years, I’ve worked every single day. I’ve spent countless hours in this space, getting involved with communities, buying NFTs, trading, meeting people, building relationships, helping others, and trying to contribute wherever I could. I’ve never been the kind of person who just buys an NFT and disappears. When I believe in something, I get involved. I talk to the team, I meet the community, I make friends, I try to help people make money, and I genuinely enjoy being part of the things I invest in. A lot of you probably know me because of that. And yesterday, all of that money was suddenly gone. From what I can see, the drain appears to have been manual. Someone somehow gained access to my seed phrase and slowly moved the funds out instead of draining everything at once. What makes it even stranger is that my NFTs were left untouched. Thankfully, I’m not completely starting from zero. But financially, seeing years of work disappear like that is something I don’t think I’ll ever forget. I still don’t know exactly how it happened. I don’t know if my phone was compromised, if my computer was compromised, or if my seed phrase was exposed somewhere. What makes me doubt that it was simply a device compromise is that I also have accounts belonging to my girlfriend and friends on both devices, and absolutely nothing happened to them. Regardless, I’m going to completely wipe both devices and start over. Looking back, I also made some serious mistakes. I had my “cold” wallet under the same seed phrase as the wallets I used for minting, buying, selling, burning, etc. That was obviously a terrible setup. And with the amount of money I had, I still didn’t have a Ledger. I don’t even know what I was thinking. Ironically, I had a bad feeling for several days before this happened. I even had dreams about something like this happening. But you know how it is… you tell yourself you’re being paranoid. And now I’m sitting here thinking about all the things I could have done differently. “I should have moved the funds.” “I should have bought a Ledger sooner.” “I should have listened to my gut.” “I should have…” But none of that changes what happened. And honestly, I don’t want to spend the rest of my days torturing myself with those thoughts. A very good friend of mine told me something yesterday that I’ll probably never forget: “You’ll recover. They took your money, but they didn’t take your knowledge or your experience. You’re very good at what you do. You’ll make it back.” That message broke me. Because that’s exactly what I need to hear right now. Not because $50K doesn’t hurt. It fucking hurts. But because I know he’s right. They took money from me. They didn’t take the years I spent learning. They didn’t take the relationships I built. They didn’t take the communities I became part of. They didn’t take my experience. And they definitely didn’t take the person I was before this happened. I will rebuild. Right now, though, I’m still grieving. It feels like a fucking nightmare. At the end of the day, money is just money. And as painful as this is, I’m extremely grateful that I’m healthy, that my family is healthy, that I have a home, food, people who love me, and friends who have been there for me through this. Those things suddenly feel much more important than anything sitting in a wallet. I’m sharing all of this because I hope someone reading it learns from my mistakes. Please protect yourselves. It doesn’t matter how experienced you are. It doesn’t matter how careful you think you are. It can happen to anyone. I wasn’t downloading random shit or using sketchy software. My PC was basically just Steam, Epic Games, Xbox, and the usual things. And if you already have a considerable portfolio: Please. Buy a fucking Ledger!!! Separate your wallets. Keep your long-term holdings completely isolated. Don’t make the same mistakes I made.
