I very much appreciated the opportunity to talk and engage calmly. At her request. She was fine with us filming and discussing at length. So thank you — and I apologize for not getting your name. I’m sure Amy will share more in video form. Sadly, I ultimately left feeling … what’s the word… not hopeless. But close to it. Deflated might be more accurate. Her adamant POV was that every person should get to select what category they compete in. That identity overrides everything. Categories for weight, age and even ability are all fine. But not biology. I explained that if this were the case there would eventually be two men’s categories: one for elite male athletes and one for mediocre male athletes. And none for women. Her view was that women can compete against men and that I was diminishing women’s abilities. I was sexist. I explained that in any given Olympics year, the women’s Olympic gold medalist in the 100m dash has her time bested by hundreds of high school boys in the US alone. In 2024, Julien Alfred’s Olympic winning time of 10.72 was not especially fast by U.S. high-school boys’ standards. In 2024 the national high-school leader was 9.93 (Christian Miller). This fact made no impact and was waved off as false. Repeatedly. There was much more that I’ll share later. But that was the net net. This is where we are.
