Megachurches are fascinating to me because they just reveal the vulgarity at the heart of religion. A lot of you want to imagine spirituality as august and austere, but this is all that spirituality is to the kind of people who actually go to church. This is all that God is

We really don't talk enough about how, for so many Americans, "church" is just a weekly rock concert/laser light show interspersed with speeches from Adolf Hitler at the world's ugliest ultramall

So the idea of making schools "Christian" is really about keeping them White and free from the boogeyman of communism. Georgia Congressman put it most succinctly:"They put the Negroes in the school; now they put God out of the schools."

But that's not the whole story. You see, the Warren Court that made these rulings ALSO gave us Brown (1954) & Loving (1967). Christians--esp in the South--saw these rulings as interconnected. In short, "God" was removed from the school the moment schools were being desegregated.

I went to a private fundamentalist Christian school from 3-8th grade. Most of our textbooks were from Bob Jones University and Abeka (Pensacola). We were not taught evolution. We were taught all the Founding Fathers were evangelical Christians. & that the KKK were the good guys:
