🚀Very excited to finally see our paper on nonsignificance misinterpretations published! 📈 Together, @ste_lee_murphy, @aurelio_fdez, Linda Reimann and I investigated the prevalence of "p > .05 = absence of an effect" interpretations. (1/4) doi.org/10.1098/rsos.242167

I think at some point we need to move from taking this as a serious ‘reason’ to be against preregistration, and call these people out for being too incompetent on research methods to take their opinion seriously. As we wrote doi.org/10.1080/2833373X.202…

👫Of these, 23% suggested the absence of an effect at the sample level (e.g., 'groups were the same') and 58% at the population level (e.g., 'men and women are the same').

📢Clearly, we have a problem. Few articles acknowledge that a nonsignificant result may simply reflect an effect that could not be found. We urge authors to reflect on their interpretations and recommend analyses with specified alternatives (e.g., minimum effect tests). (4/4)

Very excited to share our new preprint! 📢 We investigated how often researchers misinterpret statistically nonsignificant results as the absence of an effect. Spoiler: it’s a lot (~81% of 599 articles)! Dive into our findings and their implications here: osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/hm…

Group sequential analysis is a technique to collect data in batches, analyze the data after each batch, and decide to continue or not – all while controlling your Type 1 error rate. It provides a lot of flexibility, while maintaining rigour. >

Can you imagine if scientists or funders appreciated sleuths like this? Or if we saw potential examples of misconduct as vulnerabilities in our processes that needed to be addressed?
I Hacked @NASA (again) and reported some vulnerabilities to them. Just today, I received this appreciation letter from them after they patched the loopholes!

Gino's case against us has been dismissed. Scientists cannot effectively sue other scientists for exposing fraud/errors in their work. Those who work to correct the scientific record can sleep better tonight. Those who don’t want it corrected, well, I don’t care how they sleep.

Sooo, I've been playing around with @SemanticScholar's API and, after a night of nearly wrecking my computer, I've managed to trim down the 200 GB original datasets to a much smaller ~4 GB psych-specific dataset. 1/2

The new dataset includes ~10 million psych-related article titles, publication years, citation info, open access status, and more. Next, I’ll be adding article abstracts and hope to use these for developing various automated checks. Excited for the potential! 🚀📊 2/2
