"Hitler didn't snub me. It was President Roosevelt who snubbed me. The President didn't even send me a telegram. When I came back, after all those stories about Hitler and his snub, I came back to my native country and I could not ride in the front of the bus. I had to go to the back door. What's the difference?" Jesse Owens. After being snubbed by FDR almost 40 years earlier, President Gerald Ford surprised Jesse Owens in 1976 by inviting him to the White House. Jesse Owens was not only honored, but also received the: "Presidential Medal of Freedom." One year before Jesse Owens impressive feat at the Berlin Olympics, a young Jerry Ford watched on as Jesse Owens, nicknamed the “Buckeye Bullet”, broke three world records and tied a fourth in less than one hour at a, "Big 10" track meet in Ann Arbor. As President Ford would recall before presenting the Medal of Freedom: "I saw Jesse Owens at a Big 10 track meet in Ann Arbor, as 1 of some 10,000 or 12,000 spectators, when he broke three world records and tied a fourth. His performance that day in the broad jump--26 feet 8¼ [5 5/16] inches--was not equalled for 25 years. It was a triumph that all of us will remember." Fifteen years later, revisiting the same stadium, Jesse Owens received a standing ovation when he urged his audience, and I quote: "To stand fast with us for freedom and democracy." The ONLY man in the world Jesse Owen`s refused to race was "Cool Papa" Bell.

In 2018, comedian Michelle Wolf hosted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and was PANNED. Now, 8 years later, the joke’s on her haters: everything she said aged extraordinarily well 👍🏾 On Trump not showing up to the dinner: “I would drag him here myself, but it turns out that the president of the United States is the one pussy you’re not allowed to grab. He said it first. Yeah, he did. You remember? Good.” On Trump’s daughter and senior adviser, Ivanka. “She was supposed to be an advocate for women, but it turns out she’s about as helpful to women as an empty box of tampons. She’s done nothing to satisfy women. So I guess, like father like daughter.” On vice-president Mike Pence: “He thinks abortion is murder. Which first of all don’t knock it till you try it. And when you do try it, really knock it, you gotta get that baby out of there. And yeah, sure, you can groan all you want, I know a lot of you are very anti-abortion, you know, unless it’s the one you got for your secret mistress.” On White House counsellor Kellyanne Conway: “You guys have to stop putting Kellyanne on your shows. All she does is lie. If you don’t give her a platform, she has nowhere to lie. If a tree falls in the woods, how do we get Kellyanne under that tree? I’m not suggesting she gets hurt. Just stuck. Stuck under a tree.” On former press secretary Sarah Huckabee: “I actually really like Sarah. I think she’s very resourceful. But she burns facts and then she uses that ash to create a perfect smokey eye. Like maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s lies. It’s probably lies.” Immediately after the dinner, the White House Correspondents’ Association issued an apology — saying the night was supposed to “unite not divide” — and dozens of papers panned the comic in their reviews. But dozens of comedians rushed to Wolf’s defense. Stephen Colbert, who was the featured entertainer at the 2006 event, said it best: “This is the correspondents' dinner, celebrating the freedom of speech. You can't just say whatever you want!" 😝 8 years later, Wolf has still never apologized. Nor should she! She got the last laugh 🎤 ⤵️

POWERFUL: Alejandro Villanueva served THREE TOURS IN AFGHANISTAN as a U.S. Army Ranger before becoming an #NFL offensive lineman. Villanueva graduated from West Point and was commissioned into the Army in 2010. He eventually became a Captain, completed three deployments to Afghanistan and received multiple military honors — including a Bronze Star Medal for Valor for heroism in combat. Only AFTER all of that did his NFL career take off. Villanueva eventually became the #Steelers starting left tackle and earned two Pro Bowl selections. Army Ranger to NFL Pro Bowler. An unbelievable journey. 🇺🇸

The “Corruption Scandal of the Year” award may just have found its winner. Jørgen Wæver is a Greenlandic politician. He is pictured here with his wife, Vivian Motzfeldt, who served as Greenland’s chairman for foreign affairs until March this year. She represented Greenland in the negotiations with the USA when Trump threatened to invade Greenland. The Americans appear to be quite happy with this family as Jørgen Wæver has now received a house in Greenland’s capital, Nuuk, paid for by a group of American investors. The investors transferred USD 823,000 directly to the seller to pay for the house which Jørgen Wæver now owns. One of the investors is Ronald Lauder whom John Bolton has identified as the person who gave Trump the idea to buy Greenland back in 2018. Jørgen Wæver has declined to comment why he has gotten the house and what he has done or given in return for the 823,000 USD. We can expect more of this as the USA tries to buy or bribe its way into Greenland and I am not sure we can count on the Greenlandic politicians to resist it. weekendavisen.dk/samfund/ame…

Rep. Robert Garcia says Trump’s family is cashing in while Americans get crushed: “The whole family is involved in looting the American Treasury.” They get richer. You pay more.
Wow. Top Oversight Democrat Robert Garcia just exposed details about Don Jr.’s Bahamas wedding was reportedly funded in part by a Russian oligarch with close ties to Putin. “Hundreds of thousands of dollars on the wedding of the son of the president.” Astounding corruption.

Quick story that may help explain why Chris Kreider is now in Montreal: -- Feb. 15, 2024. Jim Ramsay returns to MSG as the MTL trainer after 30 years with the #NYR and a dismissal the previous summer that left several Rangers very, very unhappy. There was no acknowledgment in MSG for Ramsay and he was not shown or mentioned at all during the telecast. After the game, Kreider was in his usual spot next to the door. Instead of just high-fiving his teammates after a 7-4 win he directed all of them to go and acknowledge Ramsay. Kreider did so too, in a long embrace on the ice in full view of anyone who cared to see. Kreider had a hat trick in that game but didn't do any postgame media. Habs fans remember 2014, but this is a character guy who still has some game left.

A British writer penned the best description of Donald Trump I’ve ever read: “Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?” A few things spring to mind. Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace – all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed. So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief. Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing – not once, ever. I don’t say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility – for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it’s a fact. He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is – his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty. Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers. And scarily, he doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults – he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness. There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It’s all surface. Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront. Well, we don’t. We see it as having no inner world, no soul. And in Britain we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are plucky underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist. Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that. He’s not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat. He’s more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege. And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully. That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead. There are unspoken rules to this stuff – the Queensberry rules of basic decency – and he breaks them all. He punches downwards – which a gentleman should, would, could never do – and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless – and he kicks them when they are down. So the fact that a significant minority – perhaps a third – of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think ‘Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that: • Americans are supposed to be nicer than us, and mostly are. • You don’t need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot a few flaws in the man. This last point is what especially confuses and dismays British people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty bloody hard to miss. After all, it’s impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss. He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum. God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid. He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W look smart. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws – he would make a Trump. And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein would clutch out big clumpfuls of hair and scream in anguish: ‘My God… what… have… I… created?' If being a twat was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set.” -Nate White
