On this day, 1 July 1863, the Battle of Gettysburg began.
>Over 15,000 casualties on the first day
>Union forces driven through Gettysburg
>The bloodiest battle in American history had begun
It started with a meeting neither army intended.

Four years ago today, 13 service members, including Cpl. Humberto A. Sanchez from Logansport, IN, lost their lives in the Abbey Gate terrorist attack during the Biden Administration's catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan.
I had the honor of meeting with Cpl. Sanchez's family last year during the Congressional Gold Medal ceremony, which posthumously honored these 13 heroes.
We must never forget their courage and their sacrifice.

ALT Lines for My Last Day, Whenever It May Come All I wanted was to say a few things clearly: the way a river listens, the green of a door in the evening, the way we carry our absences like a winter coat loaded with stones. I tried. I did my small work. At the end, let me become the wind I loved. Let me at least have lived my life. With this heart, with this body of hollows. With this mind of madness and honey. And these hands, these torn hands I carried like the deep-grooved gloves of a falconer that have learned the infinite difference between giving up and letting something go. —Joseph Fasano
