A lot of people misreading this as "do worldbuilding to give your OC more lore", I'm sorry but no amount of OC "lore" can compete with making your characters part of a story where you use them as tools to advance the narrative and communicate themes and ideas

if you want to make your OCs feel "Not OC-y" the trick is not to characterize them further but to put them in a Work. As of right now they are just that, Original Characters. place them in an Original Work and the magic will happen. You need a setting. Like they need a home
