Parents of young female athletes:
ACL injuries aren’t just bad luck. Research consistently shows that landing, deceleration, and strength training significantly cut injury risk.
1-2x of carefully planned strength + speed development sessions weekly will set your athlete up for continued success.

2x/wk of training (weights/sprints/jumps) while NOT in a scholastic sport is the BARE minimum to see noticeable results. 3 is what I ideally want all my HS athletes to achieve.
With that said, the amount of HS kids that still struggle to get in the weight room at least 24 times over 12 weeks, on a consistent training split is extremely low.
It is much easier now to separate yourself as an athlete, simply because others just won't show up as much.
100%
Kids who are naturally athletic/skilled but weak are leaving SO MUCH on the table.
These kids “get by” their competition because of their natural athleticism + sport skill but ultimately are not close to their athletic potential.
What happens when these kids go on to play in college?
They often get humbled.
HS athletes NEED the weight room to maximize their athletic potential.

Girls Soccer In Season Strength Training Isn't DINKY Recovery Workouts
It's SMART strength and speed training:

Simple stuff works! We lift to get strong, sprint to get fast and jump to build power. All must be done consistently with max intent and appropriate recovery. We don’t have 5 star athletes but it has been very common for the kids who do this to gain 4-5 mph on their speed.

Make sure you fit in 1-2 hours a week of strength and speed work during the season.
Anyone can make time for 1-2 hours a week. No excuses.
If your girl is scrolling TikTok for hours a day, she has time to train.

For all those sport coaches who think you shouldn’t lift heavy in season, how do you explain this? Low volume, heavy load squat and next day majority of the athletes hit top speed PR. Volume is the killer, not load. Great work @MarkHoover71
MaxV Wednesday! We have kept our guys healthy, fresh and fast so far this season!!
✅another week with a good amount of guys hitting significant PR in sprint speeds. This after having to do our heavy triples on back squat yesterday instead of the normal Monday lift.
Low volume heavy squats chasing peak intent velocity✅
Altitude drops ✅
Loaded DB jumps 50-60% of max (measured)✅
Barbell jumps 2x3 at 2.5 m/s+ peak ✅
2 MaxV sprints per week (not 2 days. 2 sprints)✅
0 post practice “conditioning”✅
Track the data and fill the buckets that need filled✅

Great info here from Erica and it applies to all types of year-round, specialization (Basketball, Soccer, Vball, etc). Don’t neglect strength training and speed work! Consistent exposure at least 2x/week throughout the year!
A 👧 female athlete's growth spurt 📈 ain't the only thing to blame. There's more to the story:
A lot of these nagging pains are a result of too much sport ⚽️ load and NO time spent with her movement quality and strength.
Pains can resolve QUICKLY if you follow load management principles and progressive strength training. It will take discipline and consistency, but it's 1000000% worth it!
I've seen girls resolve pain in just a few weeks time by doing this by the book. 💜
But I've also seen girls and parents not listen and say screw you Erica what do you mean we need to cut back on some soccer load?!
Anndddd they continue to have pain for months. 😣
Truly sad. 😔
Not all girls need to cut back on sport load, but if the pain has gotten to an excruciating point that they're limping and cannot sprint and run normally, it's time to stop 🛑 and shift the focus to movement quality and strength work, then GRADUALLY re introduce playing minutes at practices.
🏋🏼♀️Get these girls the support and guidance they need!

💯And I’ll add…you can’t train intently in-season if you don’t train regularly in off season. Train strength & speed year-round for the win💪🏻⚡️
