Conferences are only good as the people. #CommitYourCode was for the community, by the community. Lots of positive vibes.

TYPESCRIPT POP QUIZ: If the following is placed ALL ALONE in a .ts file: const name = "Cloud" ...we get a TS error: Cannot redeclare block-scoped variable "name". Can you tell me why? 👀 #100Devs

These days, pretty much all scripts we write are modules, so the behavior is a little archaic. TypeScript will calm down though once any import or export statements are added to the file, as it then recognizes the file as a module.

No takers, ey? Well, the answer is because TypeScript assumes by default that your JS file is NOT defined as a module, and thus shares a namespace with the DOM - where `name` is already taken!

This is beyond epic. Leon is my forever hero who helped me break into the industry and change my life, and I had the pleasure of hanging with the incredible Danny at THAT TX last year after his fantastic talk. Put these two in a room together and we're gonna get magic, yo.
IT HAS FINALLY HAPPENED! My brother @leonnoel and I have combined our efforts to bring you "The Programming Podcast" We will be talking about careers, technical subjects, making tech topics more approachable, interviews with guests, and more. The first episode is live! ⤵️

🧐How do YOU pronounce "JSON?" Hint: The correct answer is "jay-saun", not "jason", and anybody who says otherwise is a monster.

Been thinking about this a lot myself lately. I've been using cheap chairs from Walmart for ages, and it has really messed up my posture. Got my eyes on a couple ergo chairs and will be pulling the trigger once holiday sales start. Your long-term back-health is worth the expense!
As a Developer, I have a horrible lower back! After 15+ years of hunching my back, I now have a herniated disc. There wasn't a plan to be precautionary and take care of my back because I was active, played sports, and exercised. Not until I went up for a routine volleyball spike, it came down on land, and my L1 lumber vertebrae spine cracked. It felt like I was the Leaning Tower of Pisa.    The next day, I went to visit the chiropractor for the first time ever in my life. He did an x-ray and said that I was missing one half of my L1 lumbar vertebrae. I didn't know how to feel other than how to fix it, so I could play volleyball again. I wasn't worried about just walking or having no more pain. My intention was to get back onto the court as soon as possible. Again, the lack of preparation to take care of my back will soon hurt me again. After the chiropractor was able to crack and push my lower sacrum back, so I wasn't leaning anymore, I felt better instantly. I only saw the chiropractor for 2 weeks. I didn't think I needed the care anymore because I felt OK.   I should've listened to the first chiropractor because my back was messed up. My spine had an additional curve from all the computer time hunching my back and the sports I was playing. A deadly combination that would soon lead me to have excruciating pain in my lower back for an entire year.   We had recently moved to Austin and there were plenty of boxes. I hired some movers to take care of the heavier items, but I still had to move the other boxes. After about 2 weeks, I started to get this sharp pain sensation in my lower back. I thought it would go away like last time if I went to see a chiropractor. This time, he was frank with me. He said my back was messed up, and I'd need to see him 3 times a week for an entire year to get my back into a healthy state. I was shocked. I didn't even want to see him for longer than 2 weeks again. Once he showed me the x-ray, we saw my missing L1 lumber vertebrae, the additional curves in my spine, and an injury in my neck I had several years ago.    My chiropractor recommended I get an ergonomic computer setup. Not just for my immediate health issues, but in the long term. This is when I sought for a better computer chair, standing desk, and invested in my health. I started to take my health much more seriously. I felt young and immune to these things, but eventually all these bad decisions come back to bite you in the butt.    Developers are prone to having bad postures because we lean towards the computer screen often. Invest in a good ergonomic chair like the ones from @autonomous_labs. They also have standing desks that will benefit you from standing and stretching out your spine.    I couldn't have been happier with the Autonomous Chair Ultra. It's sturdy, comfortable, and easy on my back. I know now why good computer chairs are not cheap. The quality and science behind these chairs are well worth every penny. If you're worried about installing the chair, don't. It was so much easier to put together than IKEA furniture. Most of the parts are put together already. You just have to assemble them together. The instructions were super easy to follow.    Take care of yourself. Your long-term health matters.

Wow. Alien: Romulus was FANTASTIC, and so so so refreshing after the (not entirely bad, but nowhere near great) prequel films. Please give Fede Alvarez full control of the franchise going forward, thanks. 🙏👾🙏

React, TypeScript, Next, Remix, Vue, Laravel, CSS... Learn them all, or learn one of them. I would still prefer to work with someone who has a great work ethic, communicates well, and is coachable.

Hey y'all! Toss some kudos and grats to my man @Tch4lla_ for joining the full-time-engineer club!!! So stoked for you, dude. Way to stick with it and make it happen! I knew it was only a matter of time. 💪
Hey #100Devs crew, I got the job!! Full time front end engineer! @leonnoel @mayanwolfe Thank y'all for the huge support over the years. Breaking into tech after teaching for over a decade. It wasn't easy but we made it. The mantra I told my son is real.

Ever wanna feel good about how far you've come? Go add a feature to one of your first projects! My early code was a mess and a nightmare to update 🤣 Still, I persevered... and you can now export or import task data into Magic Task Timer! 🥳 magictasktimer.netlify.app/ #100devs

I've been wanting to add this ever since I accidentally deleted a task I'd been tracking for months, losing hundreds of days of records. This feature also makes it easy to "move" your tasks to other browsers and devices! 🥳

While it was a pain working with vanilla react/css and my early-coding-journey's lack of scalable design patterns, it was pretty fun, too. Sometime down the line, Magic Task Timer is deserving of a full rebuild. I could make it so, so, SO much better with my current skillset!

So I poked in on one of the first things I made while learning to code to discover that the API that powered it died during the Herokupocalypse. So I fixed it! Funny working with vanilla HTML/CSS/JS after so much time in React+TS-land since then. acnh-database.netlify.app/ #ACNH 🔊
