RI Works, our cash assistance program, should be able to use more of the TANF Block Grant. Especially when we have over $52 million dollars sitting in reserve, while children are living in deep poverty.

The TANF program has been @ArtBHandy's top priority since he's been in @RIHouseofReps. He was a force behind long-overdue rate increases and adjustments in the 2022/2023 state budgets for R.I. Works, the state’s cash-assistance and work-readiness program for low-income families.

A kid’s job is to be a kid. To play + learn!
No child should be struggling in deep poverty. The stress this places on our littlest learners can be lifelong.
Catch us at the state house tomorrow at 3pm, to talk about ways we can start to fix this, thru improvements to RI Works.

We can't keep wages low and benefits low and expect better economic, educational or health outcomes for families.
We have not given families in poverty a raise in 30 years. That's unacceptable.
We know better and we can do better -

RI is the only state in NE that hasn’t raised the benefit for families receiving RI Works. The $554/mo. benefit for a family of 3 is the lowest in the region. Pass S-226 and H-5683 to lift families out of deep poverty. Learn more at: raisingri.org #RaisingRI

The word “welfare” carries negative connotations associated w/ African American people. Those negative & fundamentally racist associations detract from building a system that will help children & families of all races get out of poverty. Take action now economicprogressri.org/GetIn…
Racism is insidious & impacts the funding and statutory framework for the Rhode Island Works program today. We cannot let racist ideology hold the Ocean State back from making improvements to the program & better supporting families. Visit economicprogressri.org/GetIn… to take action!

A reflection on the state of domestic abuse and emergency needs in RI and the need to increase the RI Works cash assistance benefit. The current benefit amount is just $6 a day per person, and has not been increased in three decades. upriseri.com/2020-07-22-rica… @ricadv @RaisingRI
