In Scotland no cervical cancer cases have been detected in fully vaccinated women since the 2008 introduction of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination. Public Health Minister @jenni_minto encouraged those eligible to take up the vaccination offer. See - bit.ly/H_P_V
Delighted (and genuinely a bit shocked) to have found out that I’ve been selected for the Emerging Leaders programme at @RCSnews for 2024. Really excited to meet the rest of my cohort in Feb and take advantage of all that the programme has to offer!
The 2am coffee (and occasional pizza..) on these nightshifts were invaluable for morale - I liked to gather the team for a check in and flat white around then when I could. It would be a real loss to the site if this were to stop @qeuh_surgery @NHSGGC @Qeuhtheatres

Disappointing to learn today that the elogbook app is being withdrawn…not a perfect tool but very handy for quickly logging cases during a theatre list!
Not sure I’ve ever needed something so badly. If any US surgeons happen to be flying over to Glasgow anytime soon feel free to bring me one…
It's officially Fall and we are complete sell-outs. Get your Pumpkin Spice Surgery mug and confuse the heck out of your local barista.

Fantastic couple of days at @asmeofficial and @NIHRresearch mastering the basics of research course…aptly timed as someone at the start of my OOPR! Some slides were far more relatable than others 😂😭😭

I can’t stop thinking about the horrific rape & murder of Moumita whilst she was at work in the hospital
One of the things that gets to me was that her Dad bought her a car so she’d be safe commuting for her night shifts…
And then she was attacked at work - a place that’s meant to be safe 💔
We always tell women THEY must be responsible & stay safe.
She was a doctor AT WORK!
Women can protect themselves as much as they can, but abuse will NEVER stop until the ABUSERS are stopped
Justice for Moumita 🕊️

In many parts of the country, they don’t feel safe. A thread:
Mixed end of term feelings 🥹 Really sad to be leaving Crosshouse after a fantastic ST5 year thanks to @lavan_velu @mrdgwatt and many others…but also ecstatic to as of tonight not be on an on call rota for the first time in 6 years! 🍸 😴

It's an utter tragedy that babies - in Britain, in 2024 - are dying of preventable, Victorian diseases in because of fears around whooping cough vaccines.
Parents - please chat through your concerns with an NHS nurse or doctor you trust.
We won't judge, we'll listen. (1/2)

At #ASGBI2024 today, Professor Jim Khan delivered the RCPSG Macewen Lecture on Personalised Precision Surgery for rectal cancer, introduced by Vice President (Surgical) John Camilleri-Brennan. Meanwhile, our visitors at stand 8 tested their skills against our buzzer machine!
