Melika was arrested in January 2026 during nation-wide protests and charged with "moharebeh" (waging war against god for allegedly burning Islamic regime symbols. In court, Melika told the judge: "You let so many young people bleed. How can I remain silent? I don't care just kill me."

A Jewish former Harvard employee is suing the university, claiming he was fired for taking two approved days off for the Jewish New Year. Daniel Lilienthal says his supervisor criticized him for taking the leave, then dismissed him nine days after he returned. The lawsuit was filed Friday over his October 2024 firing.
Lilienthal says his supervisor initially told him the dismissal wasn’t about his performance, but Harvard’s termination letter later cited his skills and abilities. He is seeking damages for alleged religious discrimination and retaliation. Harvard says it allows employees to take time off for religious holidays.
