A seven-year-old boy who was being prepared for open heart surgery at the Royal Children’s Hospital was told his bed was no longer available due to an overnight emergency. Now his mum has lashed Ben Carroll for “letting down” sick kids.
“A mother has slammed Premier Ben Carroll for “letting down” sick Victorian kids after her son’s open heart surgery was cancelled last minute due to a lack of beds at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
On Friday morning, seven-year-old Jack was in a hospital gown, chest sterilised, numbing cream on his hands, and awaiting anaesthesia before being told his bed was no longer available due to an overnight emergency.
Jack’s mother Simone told the Herald Sun the family has been left “in limbo” since her son was diagnosed with a heart defect in July, and still have no idea when his surgery will go ahead.”
A couple of hours after Jack and his family were sent home, Premier Ben Carroll held a press conference at the hospital to spruik Labor’s healthcare investments.
““It’s clear the Victorian government and lack of funding is letting down our children, because they shouldn’t have to be on a waitlist.
“My son asked me today, ‘Mum, if I don’t get this surgery, am I going to go to heaven?’
“It’s one thing for an adult with a developed brain to be sent home from surgery, but it’s different getting a child mentally ready for something as major as heart surgery only to be told to come back another day.””

The economic crisis is tearing the government apart from the inside.
Labor is facing massive internal fury over soaring inflation, interest rate hikes, and the disastrous May budget fallout.
Speculation is reaching boiling point over Treasurer Jim Chalmers.
While senior figures claim replacing him is “highly unlikely” Chalmers is under brutal fire from his own colleagues for botching the economic message and executing multiple policy backflips.
The relationship has completely fractured, with One Nation's Barnaby Joyce declaring it has “broken down completely”
Just last week, Albo tried to publicly hijack credit for delaying an ATO tax rule, only for a defensive Chalmers to hit back on radio to clarify it was a joint decision.

Looking toward a mid-2027 shake up, Albanese is trying to inject fresh blood to cover up the bleeding.
Frontbenchers Andrew Charlton, Jenny McAllister, Daniel Mulino, and Kristy McBain are being lined up for promotions.
Charlton, a former economist, is already being whispered about as a future Treasurer, though he's currently playing the loyal soldier.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Mark Butler and Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke are also being floated as potential replacements to clean up Chalmers' mess.
Albo is also expected to elevate Queensland MPs to save seats after the state gained representation.
But with primary support at a catastrophic 25%, a simple paint job on this cabinet won't stop the sinking ship.
The Albanese Government has officially hit rock bottom.
