While today’s CPI says inflation has flattened, its exclusion of key costs like interest payments means we're not seeing the full picture Do look out for the next release of the Household Costs Indices which do look to capture different household experiences on 26 Feb 👀

OK folks opinion please. I wrote in a draft paper "In view of the well-documented tendency of AI to make things up . . . ", and I'm under pressure to replace "make things up" with "hallucinate". Which do you prefer? #AI #euphemism #Lies

He is correct but not for reasons @wesstreeting gives . Reform is needed to stop NHS money leaking out to equity investors, bankers and private profiteers through costly contracts and to stop service closures and reinstate NHS and duty on Sec of State to provide health care.
The population is ageing and growing. It is getting sicker too as the effects of austerity bite. There are also rising costs in the NHS especially with medical equipment and many drugs. Of course the NHS needs more money. Wes Streeting doesn't know what he's talking about.

For vast parts of North America, Asia, Africa & Europe – it is a cruel summer. For the entire planet, it is a disaster. We can still stop the worst. Accelerating temperatures demand accelerated #ClimateAction.

In response to the @UCU MAB, the pay reduction threats have continued to roll in. We won’t be intimidated by this absurdity. Universities need to step up and offer better pay and conditions, or marking and degree awards will not happen. #ucuRISING
Here’s an updated list of unis’ pay cut threats, as reported by UCU members from these unis. Threats vary in terms and length. Regardless, this is absolutely vile. Shout out to London Met and Ulster for announcing that they will *NOT* be cutting salaries for MAB. #ucuRISING

Good news from @USSpensions, as they announce that recent market movements have done little to change the likely outcome of the 2023 valuation, which looks like it will lead to benefits being restored (when taken in conjunction with @UniversitiesUK's recent statement). #ucuRISING
Dame Kate Barker, Chair of the USS Trustee Board, sent a note to sponsoring employers yesterday that, among other things, updated them on the outlook for the 2023 valuation. You can read it here: ddlnk.net/2PRX-1DK96-23FCED0…

France set for national strike on 7th March to protect pension/worker rights. Brits need to unite too. Passivity has resulted in erosion of real wages, pensions, benefits, healthcare; hikes in pension age; loss of workers' rights. Unite or be picked-off. connexionfrance.com/article/…

The @ONS released new data on household incomes and inequality in 2021-22 today, giving us the first source of official data on incomes for the year when pandemic support was withdrawn and the cost of living crisis started. Some key points:

So how about everyone in the UK puts this on T-Shirt and wears it until the Tories finally exit through shame? OK, they have no shame, but you get the point... And don't blame COVID. It's been 'almost parabolic' since 2012. This is policy.

30m Brits, out of 68m, will be unable to afford a decent standard of living by 2024. 21m adults already live on annual income less than £12,570. Neoliberalism has failed. Political parties cling to it to appease the 1%. Mass unrest will follow. theguardian.com/business/202…
