What really happened to Lucy Harrison? The 23-year-old British woman was shot and killed by her father at his home in Texas on 10 January 2025. He claimed it was a tragic accident. Lucy had asked to see his gun and it accidentally went off as he pulled it out its case, he said. Lucy's mother, Jane Coates, thinks the story doesn't add up. A recovering alcoholic, Lucy's father had been drinking the day she was killed, and initially lied about this to police. CCTV shows he had secretly bought cartons of wine that afternoon. He was never breathalysed, and never charged with manslaughter. Coates is now fighting for the case to be reopened as a criminal investigation: telegraph.co.uk/gift/a30b5a5…

“I just wanted to sit with the investigators and with the DA—for them to look me in the eye and tell me how this investigation was rigorous and thorough.”
Last month Jane Coates flew to Texas from her home in Warrington, England, to demand that Collin County officials reopen the investigation into her daughter's fatal shooting. The shooter was Coates's ex-husband, who said it was an accident. texasmonthly.com/news-politi…

Five years ago today, Sir David Amess was killed while serving the people of Southend West. I knew David as a kind, tireless colleague who dedicated his life to public service. His death was a terrible reminder of the risks faced by those in public life, and of our responsibility to ensure that everyone can serve their communities without fear. Today, we remember David’s extraordinary commitment to the people he represented, and the lasting loss felt by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Bodycam footage shows the aftermath of a Texas father sh—ting his daughter, Lucy Harrison, with her devastated boyfriend seen holding his head in disbelief. Lucy was visiting her father, Kris Harrison, in the US from the UK when the sh—ting occurred. Kris told police the g—n went off accidentally while he was taking it out to show his daughter. He later admitted they had argued about g—ns and had previously clashed over his conservative political beliefs, including Donald Trump. Senior coroner Jacqueline Devonish concluded that Kris had likely been teasing his daughter with the g—n and failed to realize it was loaded. She noted that sh—ting Lucy in the chest while she stood in front of him would have required him to point the g—n at her and pull the tr—gger. Reports also stated that Kris struggled with alcoholism and had consumed a 17-ounce carton of white wine on the day of the sh—ting. He avoided mansl—ughter charges, and Lucy’s d—ath was ultimately ruled an accident.
