Here are the big takeaways from the @IPCC_CH Synthesis Report released today. First, climate change has already caused widespread and substantial losses to almost every aspect of human life on this planet, and the impacts on future generations depend on the choices we make NOW.

I am seeing people responding to astounding magnitude of heat in Europe right now with "meh, I've seen worse." Seems that many folks don't understand importance of geographic & socioeconomic context when it comes to impacts: this extreme heat event may yield 5-figure death toll.
As of July 16: More than 1,000 heat-related fatalities already reported in #Portugal (659) and #Spain (360) during the past 7 days. Heat stress to humans and agriculture to be considerable for another few days across #Europe. Historic heat wave with climate change amplification.

A 🧵on Climate & Repro Rights: Taking away #reproductiverights during the climate crisis era is inhumane & is a DIRECT attack on vulnerable populations as #climatechange impacts such as drought & extreme weather already disproportionately affect women & girls. Here's how:

Now that activity on the #NCARFire in Boulder, CO has calmed down significantly, a majority of the evacuation orders have been lifted, and the risk of property loss moving forward appears low, I wanted to share a few related thoughts. (All photos from yesterday, 3/26/22.) #COwx

Due to the heavy smoke caused by #MarshallFire, it is recommended to replacing smoke detectors & carbon monoxide detectors as soon as possible. Once a detector is subjected to heavy smoke, they can lose sensitivity and put your family at undue risk from fire or carbon monoxide.

Thank you @mitchellbyars for being the steady voice through it all.
To say this year in #Boulder County has been awful doesn't even begin to describe the horrors this community has had to endure in 2021. From COVID to Hill riots to a mass shooting to this fire, it felt like just one body blow after another.

Here is my latest #COP26 assessment thread. In Glasgow, the needs of the world's vulnerable people have been sacrificed on the altar of the rich world's selfishness.  The outcome here reflects a COP held in the rich world & the outcome contains the priorities of the rich world
