Dangerous Hit Piece: LA Times Puts a Target on Amy Mek The Los Angeles Times published a piece claiming Amy Mek’s reporting on the Islamic Center of Irvine sparked “online threats of violence.” The actual evidence they offered: two anonymous Facebook comments under someone else’s repost. One said “Dynamite.” One used a bomb emoji. That is it. Irvine police told the paper they are “not aware of any credible threats at this time.” The article buried that fact and still ran with the intimidation narrative. What the Times did not do is engage the substance of Mek’s reporting. The mosque acquired additional buildings and described an Islamic “Village” campus offering services rooted in Islamic principles (SHARIA). She asked a straightforward public question: is a parallel society being built in Orange County? The paper skipped that question and went straight to alleged backlash. This is the inversion. The journalist examining the expansion plans and stated goals is treated as the danger. Those advancing the project are cast as the victims. Voices from the terrorist group CAIR and allied activists are elevated as authorities while their long pattern of inflating “Islamophobia” numbers with little public documentation is ignored. Critics, like Amy Mek, of Islamic strategy have been driven into hiding, placed under security, or killed for looking at the same documents and tactics. Framing scrutiny itself as the threat is not journalism. It is a warning shot. Two anonymous comments do not constitute a campaign of violence. Police confirmation of no credible threats does not support a front-page threat narrative.
