With a little help from my friend @0x_Vinyl I finally curated my dream gallery from the Cardano NFT days. I spent a lot of time collecting @OldMoneyNFT and have even had some of them printed in real life and shown in actual art galleries. Unfortunately, I was never able to attend the Washington D.C. show and have always lamented the fact that not a lot of people use Cardano these days and all these NFT's (which I still think is some of the best art on any blockchain) are gathering dust on an old wallet. I saw that my friend Vinyl was working on an NFT gallery for ETH NFT's and reached out to see if there was a possibility to reverse engineer it to connect with my Cardano wallet. He delivered in a big way. For any of my old Cardano friends who always wanted somewhere to display your art, Eternl connection is live on the website. I went through and curated each room to show some of my favorites, but it was almost impossible to pick each frame. Had a really long walk down memory lane here as well. The good news is that the site is 100% free to use, and you can make your own gallery as well with your NFT's on any chain. I know there are some legitimate art enjoyers out there who just want to have a place to walk around and check out your old stuff. Check out my gallery here -------------> nicejpg.xyz/g/FSa6cLJxRK

1) Extremely jealous that my friend Chris got to see both Keanu and @peterhook at the Warfield; 2) Keanu appears to be fangirling as much as I did at the Palladium.

Cardano ADA holders tell you price is “not important” until it pumps and then they rub a 30 day chart in your face… Well here’s a 4 year chart that you may want to take a look at instead, I think it’s a bit more important than a random Trump pump for ada 😁 Cardano is dying 🙊

We desperately need to leave the crypto bubble for five minutes. Dice? Entropy? Air-gapped devices? Seed phrases stamped into steel? Nobody knows what the hell we are talking about. If securing your life savings requires the average person to become an amateur cryptographer and cybersecurity expert, the product is not ready for the average person. And screaming “not your keys, not your coins” doesn’t solve that. Self-custody is incredibly powerful. It is also completely non-viable for 99% of people in its current form. Until self-custody becomes so easy that your parents can use it safely without understanding what entropy means, we have not solved the problem.

This reinforces my belief that the window for making generational money on crypto is over. What we've seen in the last 5 years is that 99% of the presumed use cases of crypto are proven false. NFT, metaverse, dePIN, socialfi, gamefi, DAOs, all dead. ENS and POAP are the two projects that I used to think make the most sense: they leverage the unique capability of blockchain that is provable ownership. Now they are dead too. The only two use cases of crypto that survived are gambling (perps, memecoins, prediction markets) and stablecoin payment. For both of these, big Wall St. institutions have moved in, leaving little room for startups.
After 5+ years, we're winding down POAP. Over the years, we: * minted millions of collectibles across hundreds of communities. * did incredible collaborations with world-class organizations - Coinbase, Amex, WMG, Bayer, and a long tail of others, including countless in crypto. * ran one of the biggest activations at Devcon, minting 8000+ collectibles over the course of a week. * built an Airport Rally to let collectors get POAPs at airports around the world. POAP meant something to a lot of people. Unfortunately, crypto's funding cycles and distribution dynamics made it hard to build a sustainable company without cannibalizing the ethos that made POAP mean something. Building on a fragile and quickly evolving stack, in the middle of an incredible hype cycle, only added to the challenges. Still, there are some big lessons I am carrying from the POAP story. First: Customer communities are the most undervalued asset a company can have. If you build something with soul, people who use it and love it will take your brand everywhere. Do not underestimate the power of customer communities. Second: Connection is still the point. It's easy to lose that thread when the conversation is about the latest bubbly tech or price speculation, but the people using POAPs at events, in classrooms, at hackathons were getting something real out of it. Third: Longevity and brand equity are the only moats left. With the time to building and shipping something new collapsing quickly, and distribution becoming increasingly an engineering problem, customers increasingly want to make sure they can trust that the things they are buying will grow and evolve with the market, without changing radically. Grateful for everyone who believed in what we were building. It's too soon for me to say what's next, but for now, I'm thinking a lot about what GTM looks like in the age of AI.
