Tasmania is barrelling towards transport chaos over Christmas. The State Govt doesn't even seem to care. They have given up governing. #politas #ausunions rtbu.org.au/tassie_governmen…

Metro Tas bus drivers in Northern Tasmanian will be stopping work again on Wednesday. This will impact afternoon peak hours service in Launceston. It's time for Eric Abetz to step up and put some money on the table. #politas #bustrike @Examiner rtbu.org.au/northern_tasmani…

Weekly reminder that the RTBU is a union that fights hard for its workers rights and fights right by its workers. Workers rights come first and foremost - who would drive your trams, trains and buses??

Hard agree 👇 #SaveTheSleepers
My policy position is that we should run as many sleeper trains from Sydney-Melbourne as logistically possible.

Eric Abetz has admitted that funding to continue last year's Metro Tas pay rise will be in the state budget, but he now wants to go back in time and re-negotiate it. This is completely unacceptable. It's time to move forward, restore bus services & #FixMetro #politas

After months of union negotiations - this week my husband received a 23 percent pay rise - spanned out over the next four years - plus back pay for the previous four years he did NOT receive a pay rise at all. Companies in his industry refused to negotiate with unions regarding EBA’s for pay rises and good working conditions while the Coalition were in power for three years - and the pittance that was negotiated beforehand in the Coalition years was shameful. Now with a Labor government, a strengthening FWC, more robust legislation for workers in an upswinging industry - these companies have had no choice but to come to the bargaining table. I don’t give a flying flock what some people say about unions and Labor governments - because this is the only combination that has always been proven to be beneficial for workers. Every single benefit we have as workers has at some point been fought for by unions. Business do not have a propensity to hand out better wages and working conditions out of the goodness of their hearts. The Labor party will continue to push for the rights of the working class - while Spudnik and his leftovers will continue to persecute the working class, unions and vulnerable people - while giving a leg up to business and their rich mates. Join a union. United we will never be defeated.

Workers have been forced to take these actions after private operator, Keolis Downer, blocked workers' attempts to take low-level actions, such as not checking tockets and not reporting graffiti. Stopping work was the only industrial option workers had left.

The belligerent behaviour of Keolis Downer once again shows why privatising services like public transport is never in the public interest. #ausunions
