I'm still watching this for a possible upcoming west coast Trident II D5LE flight test. I think we're about a little over 2 weeks away, so could be a Halloween light show like this one from USS Kentucky around the same time of year back in 2015.
Could be nothing, could be something... been watching the navigation warnings and NOTAMs since USNS Waters came through the Panama Canal in late August, but nothing yet stands out and seem to line up with standard Vandenberg & SpaceX Starlink missions. We are now past a year since the last Trident II D5LE test flight (below) and 3 years since one on the Western Test Range, which means I'm going to stay put on the lookout watch shipmates 👀

North Korea has conducted an SLCM launch. The (unconfirmed) suggestion is this test occurred using the Romeo-class submarine modified 841 Hero Kim Kun Ok re-launched in 2023, which DPRK modified to launch ballistic and cruise missiles.

🇫🇷☢️ How does an M51 missile launch work? 🚀 The recent return of high-intensity conflict between nuclear powers makes it necessary to reappropriate the major concepts related to nuclear deterrence. While the political aspects are widely covered, the technical and operational ones are much less so, even though there is an extensive literature on the subject in English, but mainly dating back to the Cold War. In this new article, I explain the steps of a strategic missile launch from a submarine, such as the M51.3 launch that took place off the coast of Brittany on October 6th. Some lesser-known aspects are explored in detail, particularly regarding the reentry bodies — from the strategy of their deployment by the vector to their arrival on the target — all without compromising any of the weapon system's secrets (which I don't know anyway). To accompany the text, @CalvaireDrach created the magnificent infographic that we released on the day of the launch. This is part of a broader book project, which will primarily be aimed at newcomers to the professional world of this field — but not only — and which aims to fill an identified gap for this type of document. Please feel free to share your feedback and comments on this project, as well as any errors or questions about the text — since the subject combines several different technical and physical domains 🙏 Enjoy the read and have a great Sunday!

French Navy Suffren-class attack submarine FS De Grasse (S638) in Norfolk, Virginia - September 5, 2026 SRC: X-@Monvoisin_C Note- this is the unidentified French submarine coming in a couple of days ago. French and American officials gathered Saturday at Fort Story in Virginia Beach to mark the 245th anniversary of the Battle of the Capes, along with two other historically significant milestones. The ceremony honored three intertwined occasions: the 245th anniversary of the Battle of the Capes, the 400th anniversary of the French Navy, and the 50th anniversary of the unveiling of the Comte de Grasse statue at Fort Story.

111 years ago today: USS F-4 (SS-23) was raised off Hawaii and returned to a Pearl Harbor dry dock. This was the conclusion of a 5-month pioneering deep-water salvage using massive custom lifting pontoons to raise the first commissioned US Navy submarine to be lost at sea. F-4 was lost in 306 feet of water off Honolulu during training maneuvers, all 21 men aboard on eternal patrol. Post-salvage investigation found that an acid leak corroded her battery well, causing a leak & loss of buoyancy. Her hull gave way as the bottom was just past her crush depth. There was only one survivor from her assigned crew. EM3 James Morton Hoggett was left ashore to stand duty as a pier watchman to collect messages while the boat was underway.
