The awards honor military service and defense agency fire departments, fire officers, and firefighters for their exceptional achievements in emergency response, customer service, public outreach, innovativeness, quality-of-life, and health and safety initiatives.
Lawrence Salinas, 902nd Civil Engineer Squadron fire station chief, watches over an emergency response egress exercise for an F-16 Fighting Falcon as the safety officer at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. The safety officer is responsible for monitoring emergency scene operations and identifying anything that may jeopardize the safety of emergency personnel.
