Glad the Bari Weiss version of CBS News is still willing to investigate the covered-up third Trump ICE/CBP murder of a U.S. citizen, but they did decide to drop the story at a time when there is quite a lot else in the news.
Video of the March 2025 fatal shooting of American citizen Ruben Ray Martinez obtained by CBS News appears to contradict claims by federal officials that Martinez was shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent because he "accelerated" and "intentionally ran over" another agent with his car.
The killing of Martinez, who was 23 at the time, in South Padre Island, Texas, on March 15, 2025, was reported by local news outlets at the time. But it was not until February of this year, nearly 11 months later, that ICE confirmed one of its agents had fatally shot Martinez.
In an internal report released by a nonprofit watchdog group last month, ICE said Martinez "accelerated forward" and struck an agent during the incident.
The Department of Homeland Security claimed in a statement that an ICE agent had fired "defensive shots" into Martinez's vehicle after Martinez "intentionally ran over" another agent.
Body camera video, which has not been previously reported, shows that Martinez's vehicle, a blue Ford Fusion, was stationary or going at a very low rate of speed when he was fatally shot. When gunshots are heard in the video, the brake lights of Martinez' vehicle appear to be on.
After he's shot three times, Martinez is seen being pulled from his vehicle, thrown to the ground by an ICE agent, face down, and then handcuffed. Personnel on the scene are not seen in the video providing medical care until after he is handcuffed.
CBS News reached out to representatives for DHS seeking comment on the footage and is awaiting a response.

Fair question on the surface, but the policy failure is clear: Appointing RFK - a longtime vaccine skeptic who led the anti-vax misinformation group Children's Health Defense - as HHS Secretary.
His 2019 Samoa visit fueled hesitancy amidst a devastating measles outbreak that killed 83, mostly kids. Now, his policies - like overhauling the CDC childhood immunization schedule to drop routine recommendations for key shots - are eroding broad protection and trust in MMR, and have further undermined confidence and infrastructure amid surging cases (1,136 confirmed in 2026 so far - on pace to shatter records).
The first step in any outbreak is rapid, clear messaging urging at-risk people in affected communities to get vaccinated (especially MMR for those eligible). But outbreaks are spreading like wildfire (instead of being stopped) because mistrust was seeded over the past decade -in no small part by our current Secretary- key outbreak response specialists and programs were "DOGE'd," and current leadership isn't aggressively promoting the gold-standard measures we know work: strong vaccination drives, contact tracing, and isolation without mixed signals.
These are all current policy decisions. This is about platforming doubt and dismantling response systems when we need them most.
