88年のThe Fallの勇姿。90年頃友人から借りたブートのビデオにこの映像があった。まずギターのBrix Smithに目が行ってしまう。カッコ良い。このバンドの音源はあれば買う。全部良い。どれがどれだかわからん😅
The Fall/New Big Prinz
This came on the radio at work on Monday morning and my brain said "this is The Smiths", but simultaneously "I don't know this song". Didn't compute... Bloody hell Johnny, what a song! youtu.be/qXDd9SLyIi0?si=sC7I…
I have never understood how taking away the right to pay in installments is an effective way of recovering a debt. Yet, it is the very first thing threatened when Council Tax is in arrears. Suboptimal and counterproductive. – at Waddesdon, England
No! Council tax debt going from "missing one payment" to "baliffs to collect a years payment" within six weeks is a destructive nightmare that we would never allow any commercial company to do. If people can't pay a month they can't pay a year.
Instead signposting to debt and financial help, giving breathing space, and time to repay, can result in more being paid back. Plus less catastrophic impact on someones finances can mean they need less state help in future.

Meanwhile on Normal Island, a petition to defund the RNLI is gaining momentum, but there’s just one teeny, tiny little problem - the RNLI is funded through charitable donations. This basically means that there’s nothing to actually f*****g defund you absolute weapons-grade, 63-carat c**kwombling thunderc***s.

Predicting a particulary fraught remembrance time this year. The far-right will attempt to completely co-opt the meaning of it. Real patriots will do better. Be real patriot.
I have the gift, or superpower of looking like a far-right gammon, whilst actually being a centrist (grand)-dad. I should probably deploy this camoflage more effectively.
Passed as fit to return to work by occupational heath yesterday; which means I may actually be able to resume in the next six to eight weeks...
Oh read the fucking room man. theguardian.com/uk-news/2026…
Do you remember when you could simultaneously support a position/organisation and also be critical of aspects of what they stood for? I miss that. When did nuance die?
This (read thread) is superlative railway management. The industry needs a lot more of this.

Last week Southeastern ran 10,000 trains carrying 3 million customers. No incidents of bed bugs in passenger areas were found.
2 driver cabs (out of 800) have been treated and the furniture in a depot.
You had the opportunity to reassure customers which you choose not to do.

For years I've resisted my wife's wishes to mount our TV on the wall. I never understood where my hostility to the idea came from, but it came to me yesterday: it is 1984 & the telescreen. I read the book at a young age and this is one aspect that shook me to the core.
