Thanks for the response. The most glaring failure in the plot: aged up Jon Kent was retained in continuity. The aged up version of the character, under his own name or Tomorrow Man, is a failure that diminishes every story, page and panel. The aged up character is shorthand for child abuse- feckless in action, somehow catapulted into leading DC roles despite no education, no training as a hero, no history of functioning in a super team. Aged up Jon is so poorly portrayed, the DC editorial view of him so incompetent, in one title he abandons his mother during an earth attack to travel with “heroes” he just met, who provided no credentials/proof, to a different dimension with no guaranteed way back, where he witnesses murders AND hugs the fascist murderer as a “solution.” His actions, his melodrama, in this story arc is just as poor- why trust an evil imp? Why not have the young boy immediately tested for abuse/medical issues/ptsd? Why say something as stupid and untrue as “I turn out just fine,” or NOT chose the avenue every discerning fan has demanded for years: the age reversion in continuity. Then, there are the continuity failures: - why is Ultraboy in a volcano, wearing the same outfit young Jon was during his time as a hostage? - how can Batman say, essentially, that UltraJon is “a criminal at a quantum level” because he’s from Earth 3, when Earth 3 has heroes like Alexander Luthor that prove that untrue. The story arc was terrible- Jon remains an aged up failure, despised by all non-shallow DC fans. The only good was the art, colors and letters.

Someone asked for a great seasonal read recommendation- I’ll extend it to everyone:

#nycc is live. @DCOfficial @Superman @Batman #lanterns Remember, fans, be loud and persistent in every panel and at the DC tables: - age revert Jon Kent permanently, stop the editorial incompetence - why is DC recycling story and plot, treating fans as idiots with Shadow of the Bat and Justice Year? - why did Lanterns have such poor writing and plot failure? Where’s the heroic GL we wanted?
Replying to @bleedingcool
Can’t wait for NYCC and @DCOfficial @Superman @Batman - ready to brace DC editors/creators to age revert Jon Kent permanently, after years of base stupidity and bait/switches. DC editorial incompetence remains immense - discuss the poor/recycled plot concepts of The Shadow of the Bat: just reused story bricks to build something less compelling than the original stuff - ponder the dichotomy of the amazing art/poor story that DC is publishing with Superman: The Stranger. Because, we haven’t deconstructed Superman enough, and DC is in the business of accommodating excellent creators who wish to bring inferior takes to market

Pretty terrible, right? DC must have a contract that they mistakenly signed, allowing poor material like this to continue.

Is this the Jon Kent webtoon?

Thanks for asking. It was poor. Poor writing. Poor characterization. Poor, nonsensical plot concepts. Forgettable, thankfully. Standard Tom King deconstructionist approach, alienating most fans while energizing an echo-chamber pander set who equate script failure with “success.”
i’m not tapped in with green lantern at all so now that the series is over can somebody who actually reads GL comics tell me how they liked the show ?

How about, we don’t resurrect “Lanterns.” There were no good ideas in season 1- just, a poor script, bad characterization and deficient plot coherence. Why waste further budget and screw up the Green Lanterns to a greater degree? Showrunners have failed more than enough.
Chris Mundy on if ‘LANTERNS’ S2 will resurrect Hal Jordan: “I have absolutely no idea.. there’s a million what ifs… the good thing about fiction… it wasn’t like ‘we’ve got a great idea for S2 and 3, so let’s layer in’… you take a look at what you made… then you go from there.”

Jango, Jango, Jango… a block? Really? What IS a turd like you doing, floating in a bowl like this? It is sad.
Very serious- when it comes to Lanterns…

We got it, actually. It was simply poor scripting, bad characterization, lack of intelligent storytelling… sort of every poor, deconstructionist tripe that is part/parcel of normal Tom King failures. Chandler and Pierre were great, making the most of deficient material.
Holy shit man everyone who didn’t like that finale of lanterns genuinely just didn’t get it like 😭 How do these themes and character writing go over your head just because you wanted a version of the show that it was never going to be in the first place

What makes a podcast or creator event worth listening to? - Is it a balance of opinion- encouraging dialogue and the exercise of opposing points of view? Called a discussion. - Is it the consistent reinforcement of one point of view? Allowing only opinion that reinforces, and does not contradict, the initial premise? Called confirmation bias. The age old battle between intelligence and rigor and comfortable, willful ignorance. Broadcast for your ear-pods via interweb.

Sometimes you look over your shoulder, and realize that story arcs you thought were classic in the moment actually were. Peter David: sadly gone, never forgotten. This X-Factor run was amazing. Eisner Award (1992) UK Comic Art Award (1993) for Best Writer Wizard Fan Award (1993) Stroman and Quesada: top tier work that brought these stories to life.

Note: Digging For Kryptonite also does not carry the courage of conviction- instituting a block because of valid criticism of this episode, and DC’s Superman Group Editor. So much for “looking for fan feedback” as noted in the podcast.

#superman finally listened to this podcast. Sadly, as disingenuous and fan-unfriendly as I expected. Having the competency challenged Paul Kaminski say phrases like “treating fans like active participants” or “it helps to get the [fan] feedback” is a purposeful, sad fabrication. If so- why was Reign of the Superboys so poorly done? Why push an unessential, unneeded deconstruction like “The Stranger?” And- Jon Kent. Any fan that states “[I’ve] Made peace is where we are” or “undoing [the age-up is a ] nonstarter?” actively removes any belief or trust in their perception as a Superman fan or pundit. The fabrication here, the weary statement about “900 different potential schemes to de-age Jon” is outrageous bullshit from feckless, deficient mouthpiece for DC, attempting to deflect accountability. Stating something like “oh, it’s tough when a decision is made and you don’t agree with it… an element of ‘yeah but it happened- it’s really complicated [to de-age] is pander-filled crap of the highest order. “Digging for Kryptonite” dug for NOTHING here: didn’t challenge Kaminsky, didn’t challenge his words about “anything can happen in comics…” Purely, aggrandizing pablum of no use to fans. Having Kaminsky reference both the terrible Reign of Superboys Ultrakid (why wasn’t Kaminsky asked why he/Slott approved a 2nd child kidnapped and tortured in the plot…?) and perhaps the WORST DC COMIC OF 2025, Shazam issue 20, is simply disgusting. What a poor podcast episode, giving platform to an incompetent editor, untrustworthy executive, and by no measure an actual professionally talented caretaker of beloved DC characters.

@JamesGunn Why no DC comics about 9/11, on the 25th commemoration? Ask Jim Lee why nothing about non-fictional heroes…

I got it. Thanks. No @DCOfficial mention, no “unaligned account” @dcuworld mention. No @warnerbros mention. Fictional “heroes” on screen. Absolute nihilism in the comic books. Silence about actual human cost and heroics. Can’t wait for NYCC.

Lots of 9/11 remembrances, lots of stories. I’ve always been struck by devotion, the humble, working man commitment Hayden called “love’s austere and lonely offices.” So: watch this link. Who steadfastly remembers 9/11 victims and their families for hours, daily? Those who’ve chosen to maintain the Ground Zero memorials. m.youtube.com/watch?v=T7XuOn…

The 9/11 patron saint of lacrosse.
President Trump just presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Welles Crowther’s mother, Alison, honoring her son, the “Man in the Red Bandana.” Welles was just 24 years old, an equities trader and volunteer firefighter. On 9/11, he wrapped his red bandana around his face, went back into the burning South Tower again and again, and led people to safety. He saved as many as 18 lives. Then he went back inside one more time. He never came out. Watching his mother accept this honor for her son is absolutely heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. Never forget Welles Crowther. Never forget the 2,977 lives lost that day. And never forget the courage, sacrifice, and humanity that emerged from the darkest day in our nation’s history. 🇺🇸❤️

@BigTenNetwork Looking forward to the network having Bill Carollo or Mike Ortiz or Tony Petitti on to address the Big Ten integrity gap between what actually occurred with Michigan/WVU, and the “secret official clock” version of events, that evidence indicates is manufactured.
