It was a pleasure to visit Regent’s Park College, Oxford today to discuss Freedom of Religion or Belief. Especially as I got to see original pamphlets/letters from the likes of Locke, Wilberforce & Clarkson illustrating the historic British promotion of human rights & toleration

Bishop Alan was never afraid to stand up for those on the margins, those that felt they were being ignored by the church. He was a man of prophetic spirit, reaching out where he saw injustice and speaking up when he witnessed the abuse of power.
I was deeply saddened to hear of his death today. He was approaching retirement and the sudden loss will be a shock to his family, the diocese of Oxford and the wider church.
He leaves behind a huge gap and an important legacy. We have much to learn from his life and his courage.
In our pain, it is Jesus that draws near and mourns with us. I hold Bishop Alan’s whole family, especially Lucy, in my prayers.
May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

I am enjoying my time at @SpurgeonMBTS with my dear friend Dr. @geoffchang. Dr. Chang is doing a fantastic job as curator of this fantastic library, the center of the Spurgeon universe for research.

A really good conversation and engagement in the first of @CBSOxford 'Revisiting Whitley Lectures' series. We found Nigel Wright's Power and Discipleship to still be a helpful offering into thinking through issues of church and state. Recording will be available soon.

Hamer was also brought up in a Black Baptist church, which did much to shape her subsequent theological thinking and public speaking @CBSOxford @RPCAngus @CEJoynes @AnthonyGReddie @andygoodliff @BethjAllison
"Make a way out of no way" - Hamer was a civil rights activist, environmentalist, community organiser, founder of an agricultural cooperative, tireless campaigner for racial justice, and theologian. Really enjoyed reviewing this @Brill_Religious book for @ModernChurchUK
