Young road users are taking the lead in making roads safer.
In Buliisa and Hoima, our Road Safety Ambassadors under the VIA Safe Mobility programme are turning their understanding of road safety into action.
The ambassadors have been looking closely at their everyday surroundings, identifying road risks around their schools and communities and thinking about what can be done to address them. From these observations, they have developed recommendations aimed at making their environments safer for learners and other road users.
They are now using their voices to reach their fellow learners and champion safer road use.
Through peer-to-peer sessions, the ambassadors are engaging their fellow learners on safe and responsible road use. They are sharing what they have learned, discussing the risks young road users encounter and encouraging their peers to make safer choices when walking, cycling, riding or travelling on the road.
By creating these conversations within their schools, the ambassadors are helping build a culture where road safety is understood not just as a lesson, but as a shared responsibility.
When young people understand the risks, speak up about them and encourage others to act, they become part of the solution.

Helmet safety remains an important road safety issue in Uganda, particularly as motorcycles continue to play a growing role in everyday transportation.
Yesterday, stakeholders convened to review progress towards establishing the National Helmet Testing Laboratory, an initiative aimed at strengthening the systems that ensure road users have access to safe, quality and certified helmets.
Beyond helmet testing and certification, efforts are also being strengthened to support the enforcement of helmet safety standards to ensure that once certified helmets are available, they are used by road users. @FIAFdn
