This has been Putin's dream for years: That his country, with GDP per capita lower than Poland, unable to conquer Donbas since 2014, will be treated as an equal to the US and China.

Nearly 3 hours after we were supposed to have results, I’m wondering if any of those who voted to separate are questioning the ability of the Alberta government to run a simple thing like an election.
Branko has written some well researched stuff, but there comes a time that one beclowns themself that they can no longer be taken seriously. He really thinks countries should just be sacrificed for Putin’s dreams of empire.
It is a strange world.
Because 5.7 million people live in three small Baltic countries (whose total size is less than a Chinese Tier II city). and whose half of the population lives in Europe, and another third are Russians who cannot get citizenship, and because they have traumas and bad memories of the Soviet rule, the entire world of 8 billion people should go into a nuclear apocalypse and die.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Baltic countries lie entirely in Europe. Non-citizens comprise ~9% of Latvia's population, ~4-5% of Estonia's and near zero in Lithuania—not one third—while ethnic Russians total ~14% overall (most with citizenship).

Edmonton drivers - just a friendly reminder that when traffic lights are out at an intersection, it crimes a four way stop.
Also, it’s astonishing how many of you are idiots who don’t know this and just fly through intersections at full speed.

“we will pay any price….to assure the success and survival of liberty.” Is this still true? Do we prize liberty or do we prize power and purse? No more clear test than the choice between Ukraine and Russia. Abandon Ukraine and we abandon liberty. Eventually even our own.
I voted on Friday for Alberta to remain in Canada.
I can disagree with the federal government on some things and wish they were different (and work to make them different) but still be aware of the huge costs of uncertainty and the insane costs that actual separation would have.
A separate or separating Alberta would find itself landlocked with only two potential partners to get our resources to market. Both would quickly see how weak our position is and negotiate accordingly.

So Musk approaches Trump with a really neat plan on how to send a message to Zelenskyy, who Musk is losing his patience with for failure to capitulate, and Trump and Hegseth agree. They coordinate this with Putin. There is a night of carnage in Kyiv as all of a sudden Ukrainians are unable to defend themselves. Innocent Ukrainians die at the hands of Musk, Trump, Hegseth and Putin. If not for what those four agreed to do that night these dead Ukrainians would be breathing right this moment. Musk quickly disowns any responsibility the next day out of concern that bad publicity could affect European business. Nice job electorate. Really sweet. Because of your stupidity and carelessness the United States is now a country that murders its friends' citizens just to teach them a lesson. This represents a betrayal that is hard for me to believe and stomach.
“Elon Musk approached Donald Trump with the idea of slowing down Starlink in Ukraine, The Telegraph can reveal.
The billionaire tech entrepreneur approached the US president with the proposal to introduce speed limits on the system, which hampered Ukraine’s drone defences, according to four sources familiar with the discussions.
One of the sources said Mr Trump “agreed” with Mr Musk’s suggestion, paving the way for the Pentagon to execute the slowdown on Starshield, the military-grade version of the satellite communications system.

The Russians know that Trump is their ally. The author of the tweet below is the Russian special envoy who repeatedly met with Kushner and Witkoff in Miami in 2025 and 2026.

People need to accept that the USA is an active ally of Russia now.
Latest: Zelenskyy tells reporters over WhatsApp that restrictions on Ukraine's Starlink systems remain. Interceptor drones can't function, logistics and operations hobbled. The maximum speed is 161 kph; "exceeding this limit causes the Starlink connection to cut out completely, resulting in the loss of the drone."
He says Ukraine has done tests to determine whether SpaceX is truly facing technical issues, as has been told Kyiv by the US side, or if this is a "deliberate operation... to restrict us, cut us off, and prevent us from defending ourselves and protecting our people, both at the front and among the civilian population."
He says Ukraine "sent a couple of vehicles equipped with Starlink terminals into European Union territory."
"They moved at speeds exceeding 180kph, and the Starlink systems worked perfectly. We have the relevant logs and evidence to prove this."
He adds: "The conclusion is clear: the restrictions are in effect within Ukraine but do not apply within the European Union. In other words, this is a planned operation."

When I say that Trump is allied with Russia, I am not exaggerating for rhetorical effect
Unbelievable. At 9 PM on a Friday night, Trump just waived nearly every sanction the Lindsey Graham bill imposed on Russia. whitehouse.gov/presidential-…
A serious Conservative Party would have defeated Trudeau years earlier but they kept beclowning themselves trying to be Trump-like populists. They still are doing that resulting in a quasi-conservative running and winning in the Liberal party.
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau didn't see Justin Trudeau as a PM: 'I knew it was his job, but come on.'
Canada's former unofficial first lady also said she wouldn't advise people with young children to enter into politics nationalpost.com/news/canada…
It’s important to understand that Trump is no better at managing the economy, wars, international relations, and so on, than he is at hiring Press Secretaries, fixing wading pools or appointing ambassadors.
