Alabama (10-2) barely beat a weak Auburn team (5-7 and 1-7 in SEC) starting a backup QB, while ND (10-2) spanked Stanford 49-20. One of Alabama's losses was to Florida State by 14 points. Good Lord, Stanford beat Florida State. Yet, the playoff committee jumped Bama over ND?

On July 2, 1863, during the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg, Father William Corby, C.S.C.—a priest from the University of Notre Dame—stood on a rock before the Union’s Irish Brigade and gave general absolution to the soldiers, blessing them before they returned to the chaos of war.
It was an extraordinary moment of courage, faith, and compassion in the face of unimaginable danger. Fr. Corby’s act remains one of the most iconic examples of spiritual leadership under fire.
Today, his statue stands on that same battlefield at Gettysburg National Military Park—and a replica resides on campus near Corby Hall at Notre Dame.
The powerful painting is “Absolution Under Fire” by Paul Wood, depicting this scene.
Let us remember the bravery of the Irish Brigade—and the enduring legacy of a Notre Dame priest who brought hope to the front lines. 🇺🇸☘️
