Captured this pic of a Rose-breasted Grosbeak today. I think it may have been giving me the finger. 🖕

The Sun today. Quite hazy through the smoke drifting across the US northeast from wildfires in Canada, but still bright enough to capture several active sunspot areas through a white-light filter (with a high enough ISO!)

Here's a nice shot of a couple of American Oystercatchers who've been frequenting the rocky islands off @SalterGroveRI in Warwick. (To get this angle required a kayak.) #birdphotography #birdwatching
I've been hearing them for a bit but today I got my first visual confirmation that the American Oystercatchers have come back to @SalterGroveRI—hopefully to nest!
Not the most exotic but a White-breasted Nuthatch and Eastern Phoebe were certainly my most photogenic birds to capture today...
The spirit of community cleanup is very much alive at @SalterGroveRI in Warwick!

I haven't seen any Snowy Owls this year yet so here's one from three years ago that flew over my head
"Despite the numbers of binoculars, bags of bird seed, bird feeders, bird books, and birding trips sold, birds continue to decline. Unless we can get a handle on the reasons...and work towards stopping them, we will lose our birds."

If any of you are RI @PBS watchers I'll be in a story about winter bird photography airing Sunday night at 7:30 pm. 📸🦆 It'll feature a walk along the Pawtuxet River Trail and even show some on-scene photography of visiting migratory species like this Green-Winged Teal 👇
First bird of 2023 for me will be this Great Blue Heron I spotted perched at sunset. Cranston, RI USA.
I haven’t been out shooting in a while so I thought I’d take the camera out while the Sun was still up. Nearly dead battery, but I was lucky enough to spot this beautiful barred owl before it shut off! 👍🦉📸
