I'll be turning the online sales off on Monday, 13 April. The old site will remain in place for a week or so after that, after which the new, non-commercial, site will replace it.

Great to see restored clock tower at Scarborough Station, with newly gilded crest, this morning. Part funded by a large @RailwayHeritage grant.

A plan of the Forth Bridge, 1880s. The Forth Bridge is a wonder of Victorian engineering: it took six years to complete, with 55,000 tons of steel and eight million rivets. Find out more 👉bit.ly/ForthOpenBook

#OnThisDay 163 years ago the LCDR opened an extension to Ramsgate Harbour via Margate and Broadstairs. Ramsgate Harbour was replaced by today's station 100 years ago (see #OTD 2nd July), that same day Margate's lovely building was unveiled after a rebuild in a similar style.

In a nicely cyclical way, the chap in the M Door has a currently under-construction railway station indirectly named after him. Who’ll be first to name the station and the connection? 😬

An astonishing find by my sister - our great great grandmother's brother, George Morse drove and worked this coal mine in the Forest of Dean. With tramway, of course! His father, our 3xgreat grandfather, had interests in several local mines. Photos by my brother.

Rushed up to Stanfords at lunch to grab a copy of @markovenden ‘Mapping Britain’s Railways’, chuffed to see two of my titles proudly on display too 🙂 Please always buy from a bookshop or direct from the publisher/author if you can… it makes a big difference! @CrecyRail

It was good to meet @transport_wales & @NetworkRailWAL today to discuss planned enhancements to Wrexham General. The station needs better facilities as the city grows, & the site’s heritage is part of that, helping to welcome people and be a catalyst for wider economic growth.

#OnThisDay 66 years ago Manchester Mayfield closed. It was effectively an overspill to relieve nearby Piccadilly; after closure it was derelict for 10 years before reopening as a parcels depot between 1970-1986. JW Sutherland image a month before closure buff.ly/yWztykl

🚨 Over 6,000 residents have signed my petition against Local Government Re-Organisation The Government is pushing ahead with plans to re-organise local councils, forcing our communities into enormous new authorities. This isn’t just about our identity. Decisions about our roads, schools, social care and planning will be taken by councils whose centre of gravity lies far from our rural villages and market towns. Fewer councillors will cover much larger areas, and I fear our communities will become an afterthought. Worse still, the rules haven’t been applied evenly. We were told new councils needed at least 500,000 residents - yet Ministers approved a Lincoln council of around 209,000 and an even smaller Leicester City Council. Please do add your name to my petition if you haven’t done so already 👇 aliciakearns.com/local-gov-r…
