This is an appalling lack of leadership. An embarrassment and a slap in the face to every voter who cast a ballot for each of these 435 people — no matter their party — expecting them to do *something* on behalf of the American people with their time in the halls of the Capitol.

What makes this worse is this is just the beginning. When — if? — they ever get to governing, norms, protections and any semblance of progress on issues like climate change, gun control, reproductive rights, education and so much more will go right down the drain.

That survivors can advocate for change all while still grieving and processing their trauma should tell us everything we need to know about working to end gun violence: it is possible. If *they* have the will to keep fighting, we have absolutely no excuse.

Cyrena was seven years old when there was a shooting at her school – Sandy Hook Elementary. Cyrena and her community are still fighting to end gun violence so that no other child has to go through what they endured a decade ago.
