More than 40,000 Canadian Armed Forces members served during Canada’s mission in Afghanistan. 158 never came home, and many others returned carrying physical and psychological wounds that continue long after service ends.
Today, and everyday, we Remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we honour the courage of all who served, and we stand with the Veterans and families who live every day with the lasting impacts of that mission.
As an organization committed to supporting Veterans of all eras, our focus remains on Remembrance, respect, and support — for the fallen, for those who served and returned, and for their loved ones.

Today, we take a moment to remember the Halifax explosion.
On the morning of December 6, 1917, the SS Mont-Blanc, a French cargo ship carrying explosives collided with the Norwegian ship the SS Imo in Halifax harbour. A fire onboard the Mont-Blanc led to a massive explosion that devastated the Richmond district of Halifax. Approximately 2,000 people were killed and an estimated 9,000 others were injured.

Today, we honour the birthday of Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae (born November 30, 1872).
A soldier, physician, and poet, John McCrae wrote one of the most enduring symbols of Remembrance. His poem In Flanders Fields continues to inspire generations, reminding us of the courage, sacrifice, and steadfast spirit of those who served.
On this day, we pause to reflect on his legacy and the profound impact his words still hold.
