Tax thresholds should be increased inline with inflation. This is the law! This was supposed to be a temporary policy in 2019 as a reaction to Covid, but the Conservatives then extended this to 2028. It now looks very likely Labour will seek to extend this beyond that year.
If you are a higher tax payer it’s even worse. The threshold payer it’s costing you according to the OBR around an additional £2200 PA. The threshold is now around £50k OBR say it should now be £61k. This is all with out increasing the basic and higher rates of income tax.
To understand why freezing tax thresholds is bad for you, tax thresholds should have increased inline with RPI, this means for example the threshold before you pay tax should now be £15k but it’s £12k this is costing everyone on minimum wage an extra £550 per year in tax.

Fans of other clubs could be forgiven for thinking Dai Yongge is Reading FC’s sole owner.
Let us introduce co-owner Dai Xiu Li, who was also KSV Roeselare’s owner.
She reportedly pulled funding from the Belgian club and oversaw its demise. Sounds familiar, right?
What happened next? Unfortunately, Roeselare went out of business.
Now, Ms Dai seems to have abandoned us.
Like her brother Mr Dai, she isn’t keen to be in the spotlight. But when a club is in danger, the culprits must be named.
