Officer training continues this Lord's Day at 5PM for EHPC Here is an overview of what we'll be considering this week: the Preliminary Principles of Presbyterianism as adopted by the Synod of New York & New Jersey in 1788, the Presbyterian Church in the Confederate States in 1861, and Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church in 2026.

There are three essentials to pursuing church-planting that will promote faithfulness and renewal in the PCA:
1) Missional Clarity
2) Proactive Integrity
3) Compelling Leadership
Check out the article on @PCAPolity for further elaboration on these three essentials.
I am so pleased & excited for @ReformTheoSem to have the fmr Pres of @GroveCtyCollege. McNulty was instrumental in revitalizing GCC's commitment to its historic principles, in the recruiting of Carl Trueman to the faculty, and in major campus upgrades. Well done, @LigonDuncan!
How many of the men around this table are still "in the fight" (as @HarryLReeder3 used to say). Wise question from @LigonDuncan and great answer from Carl Trueman (who has blocked me on all social media for some reason).
Carl Trueman on the dangers of the celebrity pastor.
This is from 10 years ago now, but is still relevant. It may not be as critical of an issue as it was at the height of the YRR movement and the conference circuits, but there still are individuals who command significant influence — most of their sway these days just comes from podcasts, social media, YouTube, and maybe books, as opposed to the conference circuit model from before. And it’s good that men are gifted and influential, but as Trueman points out, there are dangers in that come with that.
Trueman highlights two main issues:
- an aspirational model of ministry that is increasingly nothing like what aspiring ministers are actually going to experience in ministry
- worldly categories of success instead of faithful categories of success
He said he remembers asking students at Westminster Theological Seminary: “Who's been the most influential preacher in your life?”
He said, “Almost never do they actually say, ‘Well, it's the man who preaches at my home church.’”
Lots to chew on from this clip, but it’s an issue that hasn’t gone away.
Here's a preview of this Lord's Day's officer training class at Eastern Heights. We will start to consider the nature of church power but focus on the distinctive ministries of Elders and Deacons.
The #PCAGA will have grown to 89 Presbyteries by the start of 2027. Thanks to TE John McKenzie of West Hills in Knoxville (@thescruffysaint) for this recommendation on how to pray as these new courts begin their work.

Presbyteries, Be Sure to ask those Nominated to serve on Overtures if they are willing and plan to work until the work is done, before voting for them
Not considering large swaths of Overtures should not be an option

Vice President JD Vance on H1-B visas:
"If you’re going to bring in an accountant making $45,000 a year to replace an accountant who is an American making $60,000 a year, that’s not you using the program to bring in a genius. That’s you destroying American jobs and defrauding the American people... my view is the H1-B program is completely broken."
Is this Christian nationalism?
