Atrocity is now available to watch (rewatch) for free at home. Several of us have watched it a few times - in my experience it only gets more powerful.
This is a must-see documentary on the homelessness crisis in our city. Produced by a retired London police officer. You may not see this crisis the same way after watching.
Urgent changes are needed. #LdnOnt

One act of bold leadership new City Hall! Both sides this block would have been brough back to life! The east block has been run down for 50 years, the west would have been tied into the Market providing desperately needed traffic! CoL chose safe(r) bet, & anti FHC bet.

Long post warning:
As some of you know, I wear a few hats -- chair of @Downtown_London; vice-chair of @LTCLdnOnt, BoD member for @YOU_London, Residenza Affordable Housing, and @londonlibrary trustee.
Firstly, I am speaking on behalf of myself, not my employer, nor for the boards where I am affiliated.
I'm in favour of any proposal that does not have the net effect of increasing commercial space in our downtown. With an overall vacancy at 28.1% (which includes the removal of the vacant LFP site) the last thing we probably need is additional inventory we cannot fill. Anything that adaptively re-uses existing commercial space (that we have in abundance) is a good thing. Market Tower, where CoL community / neighbourhood services was located, was itself an award-winning adaptive reuse of the former Bay / Simpson's / Smallman & Ingram space.
To compound things, net absorption rates have been negative for four quarters in a row - a harbinger of space needs re-evaluation as we adapt to a post-COVID work world, and #ldnont employers adjust their physical space needs downward.
I will leave city building and civic space comments for those more qualified, but wIth FHC's unsolicited proposal, we have an opportunity to re-purpose an entire contiguous and vacant block in our downtown. I think we can be proud of the stabilizing efforts that YOU has had at the corners of York and Richmond. Why would we not want to see that extend up Richmond from King to Dundas? We have seen how JLC and the Covent Garden Market investments have stablized King and Talbot precinct.
The way the deal is structured - with a forward development charge consideration is win win and transfers the downside risk from CoL to FHC. Very interesting.
This warrants SERIOUS consideration in my (restated for emphasis and clarity) personal opinion.
That said, today's SPPC decision point is about whether new city hall should be limited to only building on the current 'campus' at Dufferin and Wellington. The issue of downtown adjacency notwithstanding, adding new office space inventory will only worsen our longstanding vacancy issues in the downtown, which is something we don't need at this time.
I will be following the debate closely. I support a referral back to staff. Decision point is far from time sensitive. – at Caledon, Ontario
New city hall on Richmond Street?

Good call on this one @fordnation

I’m not swayed by fools gold commentary that can’t defend the indefensible. Talk to the many merchants like I have. FACTS: soaring commercial vacancy rates; prodigious unreported vandalism; surging street residency and drug use.
How’s it working for you?

"I don't come downtown because there are too many homelsss people." Let's build more housing, to ease the housing crunch. "No no I don't want a bus stop near my house. "

Some politicians lied about it. The federal government agreements explicitly stated that as a condition of accepting BRT funding cost overruns would be the sole responsibility of the municipalities. In hindsight, our contingency cost assumptions were inadequate.
Excellent thread!
4.9% annualized tax increase through 2027?
Will @CityofLdnOnt pass this? Stay tuned.

Hahahaha....Merry Christmas London!
"Taxpayers being asked to cover $174M cost overrun for BRT project"
"The BRT project is now half finished, and funding from senior governments could be in jeopardy if it doesn’t proceed"

"BRT project is now half finished" 3 more years of construction what will final overrun cost be?
Was previous council prescient in not doing the north & west legs, or just lucky?
If those TUNNEL guys had won?
What is the final cost of finished project? @DNewcombeCTV #ldnont
Only a graduate of the University of Liechtenstein (J.W.) could sort through the meandering actual cost & projected costs!
Calling all #'s crunchers, what will the $$ be for Londoner's on next years tax bill?
Is it too painful to ask about #LTC deficits? @LFPress @NormatLFPress
MP from London West @liberal_party has demonstrated in her brief political career a level of arrogance that will preclude her from any form of clarification or retraction. Elections will arrive soon enough, will we resolve this at the voting booth?

What will she do for work, if voted out, NFP silo somewhere?

So a couple questions already arise out of this:
1. Why on earth did this bush league software company win the business of several municipalities?
2. Why has it taken this long?
3. Why have they not been fired?
4. What are the terms of the agreement?
Really? retweeted
So this opens up a lot of questions about:
1. Who approved this
2. Who (mis)managed this
3. Why has this taken so long and why has there been silence about this project? Not like housing is a niche issue.
And most importantly
4. Why haven't they been fired yet?
Q: How will hiring more police aid the city? Better response time or crime prevention?
"It can't be on the backs of the merchants to solve this," he said. "This is a citywide problem and yeah, right now its localized on Richmond Row, but it really needs a citywide response."
Will more policing change the crime rate in Ward#13 @jerrypribilw5
#LdnOnt
And CoL response is! 14-1 vote, more police presence.
