Playing Super Mario 64 for 30 minutes a day for two months physically grew the brains of the people who played it. A 2014 study in Molecular Psychiatry scanned participants before and after two months of daily play and found increases in grey matter in three regions involved in memory, planning, and fine motor control.
The study was led by Simone Kuhn at the Max Planck Institute in Berlin. She gave 23 adults a Nintendo DS and told them to play Super Mario 64 for at least 30 minutes a day for two months. A control group played nothing. MRI scans taken before and after showed that the Mario group had measurable increases in grey matter in the right hippocampus, the right prefrontal cortex, and the cerebellum, and the increases were not found in the control group.
The hippocampus is where the brain stores spatial maps. Super Mario 64 is a game built entirely around navigating three-dimensional space, jumping between platforms, remembering which doors lead where, and building a mental model of a world that does not exist. The brain treats a virtual world the same way it treats a real one: it maps it, stores it, and grows to accommodate it.
The prefrontal cortex handles planning and strategy, which the game demands constantly. The cerebellum handles timing and coordination, which every jump requires. The brain was not just entertained. It was being trained, and the tissue responded the same way muscle responds to a weight: it got bigger.
Kuhn said the results suggest that video game training could be used as a therapy for conditions where these brain regions are reduced, including post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, and age-related brain shrinkage. The prescription is a plumber in a red hat, 30 minutes a day. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2416…

As someone who read this book... A Roblox version of this would be PEAK!
Just like in the book, an avatar version of the creator/CEO goes mad and tries to destroy everything, and we, the community, have to stop him.
Could be a PEAK event for sure! (and a way to let out some frustration on some questionable past Roblox choices. lol)
A ‘READY PLAYER ONE’ sequel is officially in the works.
Zak Penn (‘The Avengers’) is writing the script.

READY PLAYER TWO (the movie) is now in development with a release set for 2028!
Ready Player Two’s book release in 2020 launched an event along side it, as well as the iconic event from the Ready Player One movie in 2018.
Could we be getting another Ready Player Two event?

🚨 THIS IS GOING TO BREAK THE INTERNET!
Elon Musk just dropped Neuralink's craziest bombshell:
“In the next 6 to 12 months, we're going to implant the first vision devices. Even if you're 100% blind from birth, we're going to write directly to your visual cortex… and you're going to see.”
“And that's just the beginning. In the long term, you'll have ultra-HD resolution and real superpowers: you'll see in infrared, ultraviolet, and even radar. Literally like a superhero.”
The future is no longer science fiction. It's Neuralink.

My hottest Spielberg take is that READY PLAYER ONE is not only underrated and a deeply poignant lament by Spielberg for the cinematic world he helped create, it’s his best movie in the last 20 years. (Maybe 1/1a with LINCOLN.)

Elon Musk predicts that in the very near future, humans will have chips implanted directly into their brains, creating a brain-machine interface capable of giving people cybernetic superpowers.
Musk says the technology could restore eyesight, allow paralyzed people to walk again, and even help the mute speak.
He described the coming breakthrough as “Jesus-level technology.”
“These are kind of Jesus-level things.”

I thought about doing this without any jokes, something I've never done here in 23 years, to impress upon people how much different I feel this issue is from any I have ever covered.
