The funniest maths in modern environmentalism.
One almond requires 12 litres of irrigated water to produce. Peer-reviewed, ScienceDirect, 2017. A glass of almond milk contains roughly 50 of them. 600 litres of water before the carton is filled.
The water comes from the San Joaquin Valley in California, which sits over one of the most over-extracted aquifers on earth. The valley floor has subsided by up to nine metres in places due to groundwater depletion. The carton is then refrigerated, sailed across the Atlantic, refrigerated again, lorried to a Manchester Tesco, and bought by someone who is concerned about the environmental impact of dairy.
Meanwhile, in Cheshire.
A British dairy cow drinks roughly 70 to 100 litres of water a day and produces around 28 litres of milk. That's about 3.5 litres of water per litre of milk. The water is rainwater that fell on her field or came from a local stream fed by the same rainwater. The rain was going to fall on the field whether the cow stood in it or not. 80% of her moisture intake comes from the grass itself, which is also rain.
She converts the grass, free of charge, into a litre of milk containing seven times the protein and four times the calcium of almond milk, and shipped roughly 18 miles to the same Tesco.
To recap.
600 litres of stolen aquifer, flown halfway round the world for nutritionally worthless beige water.
Or 3.5 litres of rain that was already falling, converted by an animal you can pet, into actual food.
The shopper picks the almond.
She has been told this is the ethical position.
The aquifer would like a word.

I voted to pass a bipartisan Farm Bill that gives American agriculture a path forward for the next five years.
Today, we made sure rural communities don’t get left behind. The bill expands technical assistance so underserved areas can access critical Rural Development programs. It also invests in distressed water systems with zero percent and low interest loans, including support for colonias across South Texas, where clean, reliable water makes all the difference.
This bill comes after a three year delay. I voted yes because our farmers and ranchers needed certainty after all this time and I’ll always back the people who put food on our tables and drive our economies.
House Democrats fought to strengthen this bill and protect our producers, our workers, and our communities. Our work doesn’t stop here. I’ll keep fighting to improve this bill as it moves through the Senate and make sure it delivers for the people we represent.
Farmers, ranchers, and rural communities keep this country moving. They deserve a Farm Bill that works for them, and today, we took a strong step forward. – at Washington, DC
This pretty much sums it up IMO.
🚨 NEW: Fox’s @BritHume says Iran’s stance in the peace talks shows President Trump was CORRECT on their nuclear ambitions: “Here Iran is, badly battered, militarily crushed. They really don’t have any cards here other than the Strait of Hormuz which we are acting on.”
“Yet they came into this negotiation absolutely refusing to give up their nuclear weapon ambitions which was the bottom line for the President and his negotiators.”
“If that doesn’t emphasize that President Trump was correct in assessing in the beginning of this that Iran was still going for a nuclear weapon and it was something the world could not afford, then I don’t know what could.”

A few thoughts…
* I’m encouraged that we’ve shown we can beat pretty good teams in completely different ways. Notre Dame was a shootout with very little defense. And today was an absolutely defensive slugfest where our D completely rose to the occasion and held tough in the tightest of circumstances.
* Kudos to Moss for balling out and giving us exactly what we needed against a good run D. 21 carries for 139 yards and a TD. Grown man!
* Penalties killed Marcel’s ability to get into a rhythm. He wasn’t A+ level but not bad at all. The pick was too high but still needed to be caught. More than anything…just a bad play call in that spot when we were dominating them on the ground. Reed does need to get more air on that deep ball…been an issue throughout the year.
* Concepcion took his turn on center stage and was elite…7 for 113…what a beast.
* O-line is way too experienced to be this sloppy with the penalties. They ruined any hope of good offense today. This is a trend now and they have got to get it figured out.
* Defense was spectacular from start to finish. Tough as nails after sudden change situations put them in difficult spots. Attacked Arnold all game. Held up great vs. the run. Had an awesome plan for Coleman. Just an awesome game.
* Defense by the numbers…
- 177 yards allowed.
- Gave up just 72 yards in 2nd half.
- Gave up just 1 yard in the 4th quarter.
* I thought this was the best game of York’s career. He was elite vs. run and pass and timed up his blitzes perfectly. He lived in Arnold’s hip pocket all game and had a huge sack late.
* I’m not so sure Ricks isn’t our best player on D. What a dramatic improvement.
* Can’t wait to get Scooby back but we need to find a good role for Sanford. Kid is a player.
* Much better day for The Blanket. Needed that!
There’s more but that is what jumps out tonight. Clean up the offensive penalties and the offense probably gets to 30. That’s the biggest issue.
Great win. Survive and keep playing!
Gig ‘em! 👍🏼
Testified before the House Subcommittee on Conservation Research and Biotech. Thank you @RepFrankLucas for your leadership and your support of American Agriculture and thanks to the entire committee for their support of conservation programs.
Thank you Congressman Jackson for working hard to pass a Farm Bill that is vitally important for farmers and ranchers in Texas and the U. S.
As a proud member of the @HouseAgGOP it is always a pleasure meeting with Russell Boening, President of @TexasFarmBureau when he comes to DC.
We discussed the importance of passing a Farm Bill this year that provides our farmers and ranchers with the safety and certainty they need to keep America clothed and fed!

In what world is that not targeting? Forcible contact to the head or neck of a defenseless receiver. Not sure I’ve ever seen a more textbook example not called.
Laramie and I have a Golden Rule. We don’t go to DC w/o stopping by Congressman Sessions office. Always appreciate his support and friendship!
Been inDC all week for AFBF meetings. Worked some visits in as well. Here’s the team with Congressman Ellzey. Great supporter of Ag, but most importantly, great person!
TFB is proud to be a supporter of Cong. Jackson. He does a great job on House Ag. Comm. Looking forward to his help getting a farm bill across the finish line!
Proud to be selected to serve again on @HouseAgGOP! Representing the TOP agricultural-producing district in the GREAT state of Texas is the honor of a lifetime.
I’m dedicated to ensuring that our agricultural industry and rural communities get the support they need to thrive, not just in TX-13, but nationwide!
To me, this is simply AWESOME!

Stop trying so hard to drum up faux outrage. It's one poster on a site consisting of 250k plus users who decided to say something the overwhelming majority of Aggies would disagree with (injuring an opposing player).

After the last few days, I’ve come to believe we have nothing to worry about from the FAR left in the future. They think Trump supporters are either uneducated/uninformed/misinformed/racist/misogynist. We are focused on the issues! Welcome to the real world!
IMO, very well stated!
For my British and European friends who are "shocked" and "surprised", here are 10 reasons you didn't see this coming.
Read this short post and then read the replies from our American friends who will confirm what I'm saying.
1. Americans love their country and want it to be the best in the world. America is a nation of people who conquered a continent. They love strength. They love winning. Any leader who appeals to that has an automatic advantage.
2. Unlike Europeans, Americans have not accepted managed decline. They don't have Net Zero here, they believe in producing their own energy and making it as cheap as possible because they know that their prosperity depends on it.
3. Prices for most basic goods in the US have increased rapidly and are sky high. What the official statistics say about inflation and the reality of people's lives are not the same.
4. Unlike you, Americans do not believe in socialism. They believe in meritocracy. They don't care about the super rich being super rich because they know that they live in a country where being super rich is available to anyone with the talent and drive to make it. They don't resent success, they celebrate it.
5. Americans are the most pro-immigration people in the world. Read that again. Seriously, read it again. Americans love an immigrant success story. They want more talented immigrants to come to America. But they refuse to accept people coming illegally. They believe in having a border.
6. Americans are sensitive about racial issues and their country's imperfect history. They believe that those who are disadvantaged by the circumstances of their birth should be given the opportunity to succeed. What they reject, however, is the idea that in order to address the errors of the past new errors must be made. DEI is racist. They know it and they reject it precisely because they are not racist.
7. Americans are the most philosemitic nation on earth. October 7 and the pro-Hamas left's reaction shocked them to their very core because, among other things, they remember what 9/11 was like and they know jihad when they see it.
8. Americans are extremely practical people. They care about what works, not what sounds good. In Europe, we produce great writers and intellectuals. In America they produce (and attract) great engineers, businessmen and investors. Because of this, they care less about Trump's rhetoric than you do and more about his policies than you do.
9. Americans are deeply optimistic people. They hate negativity. The woke view of American history as a series of evils for which they must eternally apologise is utterly abhorrent to them. They believe in moving forward together, not endlessly obsessing about the past.
10. America is a country whose founding story is one of resistance to government overreach. They loathe unnecessary restrictions, regulations and control. They understand that freedom comes with the price of self-reliance and they pay it gladly.
