Turkey's government has now officially confirmed Richard Heart's arrest; until now it was only press reports.
Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced it around 2:20am ET today. He said Heart, under his legal name Richard James Schueler, and his wife were detained Oct 14 in Istanbul, and three bodyguards were picked up afterward.
The minister called the Interpol notice a
$1 billion crypto fraud case involving the US and Finland. Finland's notice had been reported as tax fraud, so that's his framing.
He said searches of 15 addresses found $7.15M in cash, 6 crypto cold wallets, 28 watches, guns and ammunition. The court process is still ongoing, with no ruling, no formal extradition request from Finland, and nothing from Heart or his lawyers. Finland's deadline to file is around Nov 1.
