Stoked to have submitted this fun, insightful paper on branched DNA recognition by FANCM
We have a new lab preprint! Led by @LaraAbbouche and @RBDdoesDNA + collaboration with @HildaAPickett lab, we identify the mechanism of structure specific DNA binding of FANCM, and its contribution to the survival of ALT-positive cancers: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Replying to @RBDdoesDNA
@RBDdoesDNA wearing the @LorneProteins tshirt wonderfully well.
A neat investigation on the disruption of D-loops by BLM helicase and the BTRR complex using some cleverly designed DNA substrates. Surprising there is no extension of the D-loop in front of the invading strand

New from our lab @PNASNews: We purified intact Bloom Syndrome complex and determined its assembly and activity in #DNArepair. Using biochemical, biophysical & cell-based methods we uncovered interactions within the complex necessary for genome stability /1

A great review article from the group of @benjaminsgully on the state of SARS-COV-2 drugs and therapies with a satisfying structural perspective

If I could, I'd have every college Bio1A student watch this superbly cogent explanation by Dr Cynthia Wolberger @CWolberger of what Rosalind Franklin's X-ray crystallographic dataset told us about DNA structure. Two minutes of magnificence. #WomenInSTEM

FANCM directly interacts with the BLM-Top3a-RMI complex to drive telomere extension in ALT cancers (~15% of cancers). Disruption of this interaction specifically kills ALT cancer cells via rampant genome instability. go.nature.com/3qVVKEo #genomeinstability
Mus81-Eme1 cleaves both strands of a Holliday junction symetrically and cooperatively as a heterotetramer. The second strand is cleaved at much higher efficiency than the first. bit.ly/3G9oiR1 #HollidayJunction #DNArepair
Single molecule FRET shows that RuvC exploits and then constrains intrinsic Holliday junction dynamics, for efficient sequence and structure specific resolution. bit.ly/348wR0e #DNArepair #singlemolecule
