Motorsports falls under the banner of extreme sports, much like cave and deep diving, snowboarding, skydiving, surfing, kitesurfing, parasailing, and many others.
As with all these sports, the inherent risks are understood and accepted by both the athletes and the governing bodies. Athletes participate voluntarily and understand that, despite all necessary safety measures, incidents can happen and they bear responsibility for the risks associated with participating in the sport.
That said, the association is fully prepared to deal with incidents within the motorsporting environment. This incident demonstrated exactly why those safety measures are in place. The rider was retrieved from the water in under seven minutes, immediately placed in an ambulance, and transported to the hospital. Had this been an ordinary road accident, the circumstances and response could have been very different.
We applaud the hospital and MNDF personnel who were available to us and acted swiftly when their assistance was required. The rider was wearing a full racing suit, as required by the association’s safety standards, which helped protect him from more serious injuries. Thankfully, apart from the leg injury, he did not suffer any fractures.
Yes, we can all agree that our hospitals need better preparedness for trauma cases. But the same type of incident could have happened outside a motorsport event. What would the argument be then? This is not an issue unique to motorsports.
There is absolutely no sport extreme or otherwise where accidents or medical emergencies can be completely eliminated. We have seen athletes collapse on football pitches and, tragically, people lose their lives during sporting activities.
The answer is not to blame the sport. The answer is to ensure that proper safety measures, emergency response procedures, trained personnel, and appropriate medical support are in place and that is exactly what the association is committed to providing.

Apart from the unfortunate incident, RAAS Laamu Edition was clearly one of the best events we’ve hosted so far. The energy, support, and atmosphere throughout the event were incredible.
A huge thank you to Gan Council, Police, MNDF, Gan Hospital and Barchey for all the support and for helping make this event happen.
And to every single person who played a part, thank you! So many individuals from the island stepped up and helped us in so many different ways. Your support made a real difference, and we truly appreciate every one of you.

The future of Maldivian motorsports starts early! 🏎️🇲🇻
Through our Start ’Em Young initiative, aligned with the FIA, we aren’t just training future racers we are building a culture grounded in safety, discipline, and athletic excellence.
By starting our youth on simulators this year, we teach them early that speed belongs strictly on the track, keeping our public roads safe while building real racecraft. From track etiquette to telemetry analysis, these young drivers are gaining the core skills needed to step onto the tarmac.
Motorsport is an elite, high-level sport. RAM is proud to lay the groundwork, build the infrastructure, and open international doors but how far you climb the ladder is entirely up to you.
Formula 4 is no longer a distant dream. The bridge from local sim racing to physical single-seaters is right in front of us. If you have the drive, the dedication, and the passion, the path to the very top is open.

The future of Maldivian motorsports starts now. 🏎️🇲🇻
We are thrilled to introduce two major initiatives aligned with the FIA and other international bodies to change the landscape of motorsports in the Maldives: Start ’Em Young and Women In Motorsports.
By focusing on our youth, we aren’t just training future champions; we are instilling the discipline needed to keep our public roads safe. Speed belongs on the track, and we are starting them early on the simulators this year to prep them for the tarmac in the coming years.
At the same time, we are breaking boundaries with dedicated women’s categories in National Eprix Championship and an exclusive 100m drag category in our National Raas Championship starting from Laamu Edition this year.. Inclusion isn’t an afterthought, it’s our fuel.
We have also officially launched our Official Volunteer & Marshal Training Program! This FIA-sanctioned initiative is a premier choice for both youngsters and women looking to break into the heart of motorsports. Beyond gaining elite, real-world track management and safety skills, this program builds an incredible foundation to rank yourself high within the global officiating community. With these recognized certifications, the possibilities are limitless positioning you for the ultimate opportunity to marshal at an international Formula 1 race! You don’t need to be behind a wheel to be part of the elite grid.
RAM is fully committed to building a professional, inclusive, and safe racing ecosystem in the Maldives. Swipe through to see how we’re making it happen. ➡️

Engagement. Learning. Friendship.
The FIA Conference in Macao has been an incredible experience, opening doors to new opportunities and valuable knowledge. Every session, discussion, and interaction has strengthened our understanding of how we can continue to develop motorsport in the Maldives.
One of the greatest highlights has been building lasting friendships with people from around the world who share the same vision as us: making motorsport safer, more sustainable, and accessible to everyone.
Meaningful conversations inspire new ideas, and those ideas pave the way for lasting success. We return home with fresh perspectives, stronger partnerships, and renewed motivation to continue the work of growing motorsport in the Maldives.
Our sincere gratitude goes to the FIA, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, and everyone who contributed to making this conference a memorable and inspiring experience. Thank you for your leadership, hospitality, and commitment to supporting motorsport around the world.
The Racing Association of the Maldives looks forward to turning these lessons into action and continuing to work alongside the global motorsport community for a better future.
