While Syria remains polio-free, that protection cannot be taken for granted.   In 2026, health teams reached over 771K children in priority areas with oral polio vaccine. Sustained immunization and surveillance are vital to reach every child and prevent polio’s return. #EndPolio

On the sidelines of #UNGA81, UNICEF Health Global Youth Advisory Member @AlishbaKBarech moderated an important conversation on investing in child health through polio eradication, bringing together Hon. @randeepssarai , Dr. Jennifer Jones and Dr. @ChrisJElias From advancing polio eradication to championing gender equality and meaningful youth participation, Alishba continues to amplify young voices and advocate for a future where every child can thrive. As long as wild polio exists in one country, it is a threat to children everywhere. As a prospective candidate for Director-General of the World Health Organization, I will continue to prioritize polio until we reach the last mile of it, eradicating it from the face of the Earth. I will continue to advocate for our amazing frontline health workers. And to all our partners here at #UNGA and elsewhere: thank you for everything you do to end polio.

No one said multilateralism is easy. Nor is it perfect.   Our shared vulnerabilities have not disappeared. If anything, they have become more apparent.   But vulnerability can be a source of division or a source of solidarity.   The choice is ours.   The future will not be secured by stronger walls between nations. It will be secured by stronger trust between them.   #UNGA

The future of global health is not dependency; it’s partnership that strengthens national leadership. Many thanks @GlblCtznImpact for today’s discussion where I highlighted how the #GaviLeap reforms help countries shift towards resilience rather than reliance.
