All leaders are followers, and most followers can lead. Leadership and followership are inseparable, driven by shared purpose. In the Army, roles shift based on context, making followership as important as leadership. From Private to General, we all must follow.

The Accountability Ladder shows the shift from reactive to proactive behaviours. Denial, blame, and excuses hold you back, while owning problems, finding solutions, and taking action drive success. Where do you stand on the ladder?

“If serving is beneath you, then leadership is beyond you.” – Rory Vaden. The British Army’s Servant Leadership philosophy embodies the paradox of Serve to Lead. Leadership is a balancing act, commanding tasks while supporting teams.

Creating a challenge culture boosts performance, but it relies on psychological safety. Teams must feel safe to raise concerns and question the status quo without fear. Mutual respect is key to fostering constructive challenges and driving improvement.

“Surround yourself with the best people, prioritise, provide boundaries, then delegate, and you will see magic happen.” HNY everyone
I am enormously grateful and proud to have been awarded a DSO in the King’s New Year’s Honours list.
Commanding on operations, and having the chance to serve at that level, is hugely rewarding and I would do it again given the chance.
This honour is a high watermark. It is humbling for me personally, but also for the recognition of the incredible teams that I have commanded and worked with to achieve extraordinary and courageous things for our nation. This award recognises them.
Surround yourself with the best people, prioritise, provide boundaries, then delegate, and you will see magic happen.
On my behalf and theirs, thank you for this honour.
Wishing you all a happy and prosperous new year.

Think we will agree to disagree - NCTH sure - other examples I stated we do make a diff RCT is unlikely in UK as we have established a recognized standard of care which benefits a sub set of patients.
Surely not every single procedure performed on scene increases time and decreases survival in trauma? Is this statement evidenced? Examples opposed inc stabbings treated via a thoracotomy- polytrauma patients periarrest treated by PHEA and blood products.

Guess who's back, back again? Jake is back, tell a friend... 😎
Yesterday, paramedic Jake had his first shift back onboard the Guardian of the North II after spending a couple of months working as an army medic overseas.
We're happy to have him back! 💚
