I may have accidentally met Russell Brand once or seventeen times where I inadvertently referred to Brand as a political colossus & mankind's preeminent thinker as he guest edited my magazine, but this sycophantic praise was my way of expressing how much I utterly detested him .

This strip is genuinely devastating. Like he knew it was soon and he was accepting it
The last 3 years of the Peanuts comic before Charles Schulz died is the most depressing piece of literature ever crafted. A harrowing look at incoming mortality. A gradual darkness around the corners of your eyes swallowing more n more of the light. Atrophy calls. Finality rings.

More than any actor we've ever had in the role! Fleming wrote that Bond looks like Hoagy Carmichael

Jimmy Stewart and zombies, mashed up the old fashioned way. Our short film It’s a Wonderful Night of the Living Dead took a year to make, ended up playing in a few Oscar-qualifying film festivals, and is now available to watch from your toilet.

I am deeply fascinated by the modern right's insistence that "the elite" is a category that does not actually include the ultra wealthy who dominate society and dictate many of its laws, and is instead made up of socialist teachers, anti-genocide protestors, and "woke" baristas.

It’s kind of sad that a monologue that would have been a sidebar in a 1970s Woody Allen film is now praised as epic genius. Make better movies.
The most memorable and exciting scene in a film all year.

"Nobody writes like her." That reminds me of when I asked Billy (Wilder) once what should I say when I have to go backstage to greet a friend and the play was awful. He said to me say "I have never seen anything quite like that." Exactly.
"Nobody writes like her. And nobody, I think, would even dare to do it in this way.” Immediately after the announcement, Steve Sem-Sandberg, member of the Swedish Academy, was interviewed about the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature.

The Shield made the mistake of not looking expensive and not making you feel prestigious and sophisticated for watching it. It was just really fucking good.
My one comment on that NYT TV shows list is that modern critics don't appreciate THE SHIELD enough. They ranked the show with the shticky Walton Goggins' performance 49 spots higher than the one where he staked his claim as one of the best TV actors of his generation. Unserious!

Oak Street is good fun and honestly, as a fellow Scotsman, good on Ewan McGregor for absolutely burning Hollywood for thirty years of big paycheques. Shallow Grave is easily the best film he was in and it’s the one he was best in, in 1994, because he was playing himself.
