An open source, self-hosted AI harness designed to protect your sensitive data. Built with ❤️ by @ElectricCapital

The world is starting to realize the security implications around AI usage. And it's not just about the inference provider! It's also every action the model takes and every artifact it produces. Soon all harnesses will be designed around these risks. madrobot.blog/2026/10/19/us-…

Quest now has integrated docs and tables! But you might think, "why build these when we already have Google docs or Microsoft 365?" The answer is data safety: 🧵

By building these rules into the harness, users can freely leverage the AI without having to keep track of these rules. It also means AI can work more autonomously while keeping data safe, because the harness has all the context.

Local models are awesome, but only part of the picture. For true freedom, don't forget to pair it with a local harness.
🚀 DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017 is here! Stronger benchmark performance, faster task completion, and shorter outputs than the previous version—a Pareto improvement in performance and cost. Now live on our website, app, and API. 🛠️ Optimized for @DeepSeekHarness, Tencent CodeBuddy, WorkBuddy, and more. Upgrade to DeepSeek Harness v0.2.1-rc.1 or later for the best experience with the new model. 1/4

AI made Open much more valuable than Closed. Closed platforms and ecosystems created value through careful curation, integration, and testing. All of that took a ton of skill and effort. But those things are now free or will be free soon. The agents will build for us, integrate for us, and test for us. Curation becomes a matter of just saying exactly what you want. Open systems will form the base layer for billions of personalized solutions. I'm seriously considering buying a PC laptop for the first time in a decade, because I'm pretty sure AI can build me exactly the desktop that I want. A Mac will be 80% there out of the box, but require tons of tokens to get to 100%. A linux laptop starts at 50% but speed runs to 100% with probably < 1% of the tokens. I think about this for @QuestHarness every day. The only way to make something valuable to others it to make something that is as customizable as possible. We've spent tokens figuring out the foundation so that others can take it and turn it exactly into what you need. I love Apple stuff as much as the next nerd but I really wonder about where they go from here.

From an ordinary user's perspective, the way that labs name their various model tiers is super confusing. Ask a normal person if Luna is better than Sonnet and see how far you get. In Quest we built customizable model selector menus to help make sense of things:

It's not just humans. AI models are potential insider threats as well.
Every serious frontier tech company - big or small - should assume it has insider threats. And they don’t need to be that sophisticated. I saw it in government. I saw it with crypto. OpenAI is the latest. Founders tend to assume good intentions while speaking about some of their most sensitive information out loud: capabilities, unreleased products, strategic plans, government relationships. Employees are the most obvious vector. The more sophisticated operations target founders, execs, and vendors through romantic, family, and social relationships. And on small teams, one compromised person can do a lot of damage. With former federal prosecutors and ex-FBI agents as part of our team, we spend a lot of time on these issues. Here’s some of what we’re telling our founders: 1. Expect to see more private-sector versions of SCIFs and clearances, where the most sensitive conversations and work are physically isolated and under stricter access controls. 2. Agencies may know about a specific insider threat at a company but can't share that info unless someone at the company holds a clearance like TS/SCI. Lead times to get a clearance are long. Plan now. 3. Restrict access to sensitive meeting schedules, disable unused ports on conference-room equipment, and regularly sweep rooms used for confidential discussions for surveillance devices. You don't need OpenAI's budget to be ready. But you do need to start.

Who is @QuestHarness for? Even though I use it every day, unlike most open source harnesses, it's not actually built for engineers. Our biggest users are people in non-engineering roles. Quest is built for teams that: - Want to empower everyone on their team to leverage AI, not just engineers. - Who handle sensitive data and can't just trust a model to always know how and when data should move. - Who want to own their AI infrastructure. Who want freedom to choose models (including local ones), store their own skills, integrate their own services.

Props to @altantutar for being one of our first external contributors! We are looking to support as many inference backends as we can (sanely), so PRs are welcome! We're also happy to integrate both decentralized, and privacy-focused backends as they align with our mission.
I have just started to contribute to Quest, @electriccapital's open-source agent harness, where we just integrated @near_ai's trust infrastructure! Quest is a self-hosted harness where you plug in your own inference providers, connect the services you already use, and let agents work on them behind approval gates and cost reporting. When you send a prompt to a hosted model, you are trusting whoever runs the box: they can read the prompt, read the answer, and quietly serve a different model than the one you asked for. For an agent that is reading your emails, your docs, your internal APIs, that is quite a lot of trust with your most confidential data. @near_ai cloud runs part of its catalog inside Intel TDX and NVIDIA confidential-GPU enclaves, where the hardware attests to what is running and NEAR says even its own operators cannot look inside. If you or your organization deals with confidential data, legal documents, company finances, and client records, Quest is definitely worth spinning up, so that your data stays with you.
